Z'OTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITTONS
1. This approves Vanguard II Flat concrete roof tile for a direct
nail -on system on a minimum roof slope of 4" in 12 ". This direct
nail -on system shall be limited to installations of 75 feet above
existing grade.
Specifications:
Vanguard II Flat concrete tile is 16 1/2" long by 13 1/8" wide and
1 1/8" in thickness at the butt end. Each tile has 1 3/8"
interlocking side lap. The average weight of a tile is 12 1/2
pounds.
3. Installation:
Each tile is attached, to a fully sheathed 19/32" or 5/8" thick
sheathing grade plywood deck covered with a 43 pound asphalt
Impregnated felt, with two 10d common hot dip galvanized steel
nails. The nails are driven through the 3/16" diameter nail holes
to within 1/16" of the surface. Each course of tile is installed
utilizing a 3" head lap.
4. Quality Control
The manufacturer shall retain the services of an independent
testing laboratory to maintain quality control. Test shall be
performed'on a minimum of five tiles during production of domestic
tile for strength according to Section 3403 of the South Florida
Building Code and for moisture absorption according to ASTM C -4.
Test samples shall be selected by a laboratory according to ASTM
D- 3665 -82. Results shall be submitted to Dade County Product
Control Section every ninety days. Test reports shall bear a
description of the tile by material and color, i.e. clay, red.

5. Markings:
All tiles shall bear the imprint of the manufacturer's name and
tile designation, i.e. Vanguard II Flat, to permit identification
in the field.
6. This product must be re- evaluated for structural adequacy when
installed within the Coastal Construction Zone, in accordance wit
Chapter 23, Sub - section 2309.2 (b) of the South Florida Building
Code.
7. This renewal supersedes Notice of Acceptance No. 88- 0922.2 dated
December 12, 1988.

Extension of Acceptance may be considered after a new
application has been filed and the supporting data,
test reports no older than ten (10) years, have been
re- evaluated.
All reports :of re- testing shall bear the seal,
signature and date of an engineer registered in the
State of Florida.
2. Any revision or change in the materials, use, or
manufacture of the product or process shall
automatically be cause for termination, unless prior
approval is granted for revisions or change.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance

System Description
Bender Roof Tile Industries, Inc. located in Sweden and Belleview, Florida is a manufacturer of concrete roof tile
for mechanically fastened systems. All tiles markedted in South Florida and the balance of U.S. are manufactured
in our plant in Belleview, Florida.
Bender offers two profiles, the Palema (double roll) and Nordic (flat) profiles for use in the south Florida
juristition. The product offering incluides all necessary trim tiles such as ridge tiles, gable rakes. hip starts /ridge
ends, and apex's. These trim tile as well as rubber closer strips, storm clips, and all other accessories tested form an
intergal part of this Product Approval.
All tiles are available with colorthrough pigment or color through/topcoat sealed to produce a deeperbrighter color.
A clear sealer can also be added to give the tile a shiner appearance.
Bender Roof Tile has been tested in compliance with the South Florida Building Code requirements.

Limitations:
1. This roof system assembly may be applied to roof slopes no less than 2 ":12 ".
2. Vertical and horizontal battens shall be used on all tile applications on slopes of 2" :12" to 4 ":12 ".
3. Horizontal battens shall be used on all tile applications on slopes of >7 ":12 ".
4. Nails for attachment of tile shall have heads larger than the pre - formed nail holes in the tile.
5. All nails shall be corrosion resistant. Exposed nails shall be hot dipped galvanized, stainless steel, or copper
only.
6. Allowable height above ground shall not exceed a maximum height of 45' for non - coastal, 30' in Coastal Area
1 and 2, and only by job approval from the Chief Product Control Compliance Officer in Coastal Area 3.
7. Any amendments to these provisions shall be in compliance with Sections 203 and 204 of the South Florida
Building Code.
8. All tiles shall bear the imprint of the manufacturer's name or logo, as noted attached, to permit identification
in the field.
9. The manufacturer shall retain the services of an independent testing laboratory to maintain quality control. —
Testing shall be performed on a minimum of five (5) tiles every three (3) months, for strength according to Section
3404 of the South Florida Building Code, and for moisture absorption according to PA 112. Test samples shall be
selected by a laboratory according to ASTM D- 3665 -82. Results shall be forwarded to Dade County Product
Control Section. Test reports shall bear a description of the tile by material and color, i.e. cement, grey.
10. All domestic distributors of foreign manufactured tile shall have a completed distribution agreement filed with
the Metro Dade County Office of Code Compliance confirming the distributor's agreement to adhere to the
conditions of this report.
11. Lifetile products shall be installed in strict compliance with the application instructions noted herein as well as
the manufacturer's and Metro -Dade County specifications and application instructions. The Metro Dade County
Model Tile Specification shall take precedence.
12. The use of all pre - formed trim and specialty tile tested is required as it forms an intricate part of these product
control approval tests.
=13. Applications for roofing permits must be accompanied by Section II of the Uniform Building Permit, clearly
indicating the extent of the work to be performed, along with current manufacturer's specifications and details. In
addition, a copy of this approval shall be attached to the permit application. Reference shall be made to all
appropriate data for the required fire rating.

1. Extension of Acceptance may be considered after a new application has been filed and the supporting data,
test reports no older than ten (10) years, have been re- evaluated.
All reports of re- testing shall bear the seal, signature and date of an engineer registered in the State of
Florida.
2. Any revision or change in the materials, use, or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically
be cause for termination, unless prior approval is granted for revisions or change.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance of this product or process or a change in Code provisions shall be grounds
for re-evaluation.
4. This acceptance shall not be used as an endorsement of any product for sales or advertising puiposes.
5. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the
expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is
displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety.
6. Product approval drawings, where required for permit applications, shall be provided to the applicant by
the manufacturer or his distributors; unless otherwise noted in the Notice of Acceptance. The prints need not
be re- sealed by an engineer.
7. An annual certificate confirming listing with Factory Mutual Research and Underwriters Laboratories or
such other listing agency approved by the Office of Code Compliance shall be submitted on or around the first
of April annually.
8. Failure to comply with Standard Conditions shall be cause for termination of Approval.
