Almar (U.S.A.), Inc., has filed with this office th4: additional and required acceptable test
data to support the request for renewal and continued we of their Altusa "S" Clay Roof Tile for
both nail -on and mud -on plus their Altusa Barrel Clay R3of Tile for mud -on; of their Notice of
Acceptance #90- 0208.182 which expired on March 12, 1993.
The tiles for mud -on shall be installed on a solid :iailable deck of 5/8" thick plywood for
new construction and on 1 /2" thick plywood on re- roofing.
The deck shall be covered with a 30 Type II (AS TM D -226) anchor sheet and tin capped
6" o.c. on all laps, 12" o.c. in the field and 4" on drip edge. Over this, a hot - mopped 90 Type II
(ASTM D -249) roll roofing cap sheet using hot steep as7halt Type IV conforming to ASTM
D- 312 -89.
The tile shall be applied to the roof with mortar consisting of one bag of Florida Roof Tile
Cement by La Farge Corporation for Type M mortar and 14 shovels of sand conforming to
ASTM C -144 for a 2:1 mix, then adding approximately 4.5 to 5 gallons of water and mix for 5
minutes.
Due to Hurricane Andrew, this office has been inundated with requests for both new
products and renewals of those to expire which has caus:d a large back log in responding with an
official Notice of Acceptance.
In the interim period, please accept this letter in Fllowing these products to be installed by
a licensed roofing contractor in accordance with the manufacturer's further specifications and
Chapter 34 of the South Florida Building Code until an official Notice of Acceptance is issued.
