Applicants have requested approval of a 6'3' motorized rolling driveway gate. Section
518(b) of the code requires Planning and Zoning Board approval of any wall or fence
located in the front yard.
STAFF COMMENTS/RECOMMENDATION
The gate in question is 5' high with 1'4" of ornamental work on top. It will be adjacent to
a 4'3" garden wall, is 10' wide, and is being installed for security. Section 518 requires
that fences be 3.5' high in the front yard and 5' high in the side yard. However, as noted
on the survey, the gate will be 27.05' from the front property line and 45' from the side
property line. Staff would be more comfortable recommending approval of this request if
the gate were 4'3" high with 1'4" of ornamentation which would allow the top of the
main part of the gate to line up with the garden wall. Alternatively, the Board may wish
to consider the distance from the side and front property lines when considering the
height. Therefore, staff recommends approval of the request conditional on the lowered
heivht.

which we understand is required to install a motorized driveway gate on the
west side of our home. We wouldlike to address the Planning and Zoning
Board at their next meeting on February 17, 2000. Due to security concerns
and the time involved to construct and install this gate, we would like this
resolved as quickly as is possible.
Enclosed please find the gate plans submitted by our architect John Orgren,
and the recent property survey that you have requested. I have enclosed ten
copies of each along with a photograph of the west side entrance to our
driveway.
