The information provided in this Section is required to confirm
Product Control Approval of the proposed tile system assembly;
confirm compliance with the wind load requirements of Chapter 23

Alfareria del Turbio, S.A. (Altusa), located in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, manufacturers clay roof
tile for nail -on, mortar set or adhesive set applications. All tile is manufactured from natural Venezuelan
clays. This Product Control Approval relates to Altusa's "Altusa S" tile profile. Refer to appropriate
Product Control Approvals for other tile profiles.
The "Altusa S" tile profile is available in a variety of natural clay colors and has matching trim
pieces used for rake hip, ridge hip, and valley terminations. These accessories are manufactured for all
profiles and forin a part of this Product Control Approval. Optional rubber or clay eave closures are also
available.
Altusa roof tiles have been tested in compliance with the South Florida Building Code
requirements for clay, nail -on, mortar set or adhesive set tile applications. The minimum roof slope for
he "Altusa S" nail tiles shall be 2 ":12 ". See the "Profile Drawing" section in this approval for the
"Altusa S" profile drawing. The "Altusa S" profile has been tested for both wind characteristics and
static uplift performance, therefore, any consideration for installation shall be done as a 'Moment Based
System'. Data for attachment calculations is noted in Tables I through 4 of this Approval.
Almar (USA), Inc., located in Miami, Florida, is the sole approved importer under contract for

Install horizontal battens of pressure treated or decay resistant lumber having
minimum dimensions of nominal 1" x 4 ". Horizontal battens shall be installed
over vertical battens at a spacing to provide a tile overlap not Tess than 3" and
secured through the vertical batten and sheathing with approved, corrosion
resistant fasteners. (See PA 118.)
Install tile in compliance with PA 118 using one of the approved methods of
attachment for batten applications noted in Table 3, attached. The method of
attachment utilized shall provide sufficient attachment resistance expressed as
a moment to meet or exceed the required moment of resistance determined in
compliance with PA 115 or PA 127.

2. All nail -on tile applications having a roof pitch less than 4 ":12" shall be installed over both vertical
and horizontal battens ( "Counter- Battens "), as noted in System A. All nail - on tile applications
having a roof pitch in excess of 7 ":12" shall be installed over horizontal battens as noted in System
1. The standard minimum roof pitch for "Altusa S ", nail - on, mortar or adhesive set tile applications
is 2" rise in 12" run (2 ":12 "). The maximum roof pitch for mortar or adhesive set tile applications
is 7" rise in 12" run (7 ":12 ").
3. For nail - on applications, brass or stainless steel screws for mechanical attachment of tiles shall
have a head diameter larger than that of the preformed holes in the tile.
4. System installation shall be in compliance with the system specifications outlined in this Product
Control Approval. Nail - on tile shall be attached using one of the methods of attachment noted in
Table 3 of this Approval. Mortar or adhesive set tile shall be attached using an approved mortar
or adhesive noted in this Approval, the data of which is noted in Table 4 of this Approval. The
method of attachment utilized shall provide sufficient attachment resistance expressed as a moment
to meet or exceed the required moment of resistance determined in compliance with Dade County
Protocol PA 115 or PA 127.
5. For nail - on tile applications, an eave clip is required on all eave tile. For mortar set applications,
the first three courses of tile shall be nailed with not less than one nail per tile. As an alternate, the
First three courses of tile shall be applied in mortar over a single layer of minimum 12 ga. wire mesh
with square openings of not less than'/," which is mechanically attached to the deck with not less
than one roofing nail every 1 ft For roof pitches from 6 ":12" to 7 ":12 ", every third tile of every
fifth course, beginning at the eighth course, shall be nailed with not less than one nail per tile.
6. For mortar or adhesive set tile applications, a field static uplift test by a Dade County accredited
testing agency, in compliance with Dade County Protocol PA 106, shall be required not less than 30
days after application to confirm tile adhesion. •[he results of this testing shall be reported to the
Building Official and the installer stating that the application has passed or failed PA 106 testing. If
the application fails PA 106 testing, the report shall state which portion of the test was failed;
Category I (examination for loose tile) or Category 2 (uplift testing of tile). Subsequent to testing,
the installer may repair not more than 5% of field area tiles and 10% of perimeter area (i.e.
ridge /rake) tile with approved tile adhesive. The installer shall place an identifiable marking on
each repaired tile for future reference. Any PA 106 re -test shall not include any marked tile.
7. For mortar or adhesive set tile applications, 30/90 hot mopped underlayment applications may be
installed perpendicular to the roof pitch prior to June 1, 1995 unless stated otherwise by the material
manufacturer. Thereafter, 30/90 underlayment systems shall be installed parallel to the roof pitch in
compliance with Appendix 'A' of Dade County Protocol PA 120.

8. All tiles shall bear the imprint or identifiable marking of the manufacturer's name or logo for
identification in the field.
9. The Altusa "Altusa S" tile profile has been tested for both wind characteristics and static uplift
performance, therefore, attachment calculations for installation in compliance with Dade County
Protocol PA 115 or PA 127 shall be done as a 'Moment Based System'
10. Applications for roofing permits shall include a completed Section 11 of the Uniform Building
Permit, a copy of Altusa Tile's current specifications and details, a copy of this Product Control
Approval and a copy of the Product Control Approval of any Roofing Component used in the
proposed tile application. Reference shall be made to appropriate data for the required fire rating.

Polyfoam Products, Inc., produces two- component expanding polyurethane adhesive for the attachment
of clay and concrete roof tile. Polypro® AHI60 is specially designed for application of concrete and
clay roof tile over a variety of roof deck substrates and underlayment materials.

Polypro® adhesive is applied with proprietary Foampro® RTF1000 dispensing equipment. Approval of
this product is specific to the two component mix and Fpami ro® RTF1000 dispensing equipment.
Alternative methods of dispensing will require a revision to this approval.
Polypro® adhesive shall be applied only by 'Qualified Applicators', licensed by Polyfoam Products, inc.
Certificates and identification cards are issued to applicators upon successful completion of a application
training program. Approval of this adhesive system is contingent upon apptieation by a 'Qualified
Applicator.

3. •For adhesive set tie applications, a field static uplift test by a Dade County accredited testing
agengy, in compliance with Dade County Protocol PA 106, shall be required not less than 72 hours
after application to confirm tile adhesion. The results of this testing shall be reported to the
Building Official and the installer stating that the application has'passcd or failed PA 106 testing. If
the application fails PA 106 testing, the report shall state which portion of the test was failed;
Category I (examination for loose tile) or Category 2 (uplift testing of tile). Subsequent to testing,
the installer may repair not more than 5% of field area tiles and 10% of perimeter area (i.e.
ridge/rake) tile with approved tile adhesive. The installer shall place an identifiable marking on
each repaired tile for future reference. Any PA 106 retest shall not include any marked tile.
4. Refer to application drawings published by the National Tile Manufacturers udad with this Component
penetrations and terminations, as well as the 'Placement Details'
Approval.
5. Refer to tilt Roof System Assembly Product Control Approval for system Approvals with this
Component.
6. Refer to the Prepared Roof System Assembly for fire rating.

Ladrillera Santafe, located in Bogota, Columbia, manufacturers clay roof tile for nail -on and
adhesive set applications. All Ladrillera Santafe tiles are available in standard unglazed and a glazed
color finish. This Product Control Approval relates to the Ladrillera Santafe "Santafe S" tile profile.
Refer to appropriate Product Control Approvals for other tile profiles.
Ladrillera Santafe tile profiles have matching trim pieces used for rake hip, ridge hip, and valley
terminations. These accessories form a part of this Product Control Approval.
The Ladrillera Santafe's "Santafe S" til 4profile has been ,tested in 'compliance with the South
Florida Buildipg Code requirements for clay, nail -on and adhesive set tile applications. The minimum
roof slope for Ladrillera Santafe's "Santafe S" nail -on tiles shall be 4 ":12 ". The minimum roof slope for
Ladrillera Santafe's "Santafe S" adhesive set tiles shall be 2 ":12" See the "Profile Drawing" section in
this approval for the "Santafe S" profile drawing. The "Santafe S" tile profile has been tested for static
uplift performance only. Therefore, any consideration for installation shall be done as an 'Uplift Based
System'. Data for attachment calculations is noted in Tables I and 2 of this approval.
Santa Fe Tile Corporation is the sole, approved distributor of Ladrillera Santafe roof tiles.

1. The standard minimum roof pitch for Ladrillera Santafe's "Santafe S" high profile tile shall comply
with Dade County Application Standards PA 118, PA 119 or PA 120, depending on the method of
installation.
2. For nail -on applications, fasteners for mechanical attachment of tiles shall have a head diameter
larger than that of the preformed holes in the tile.
3. System installation shall be in compliance with the system specifications outlined in this Product
Control Approval. The method of attachment utilized shall provide a minimum characteristic
resistance Toad greater than or equal to the required uplift resistance determined in compliance with
Dade County Protocol PA 115 or PA 127. The Ladrillera Santafe "Santafe S" tile profile has been
tested for static uplift performance only, therefore, attachment calculations for installation in
compliance with PA 115 or PA 127 shall be done as an 'Uplift Based System'
4. For adhesive set tile applications, a field static uplift test by a Dade County accredited testing
agency, in compliance with Dade County Protocol PA 106, shall be performed.
5. All tiles shall bear the imprint or identifiable marking of the manufacturer's name or logo for
identification in the field.
6. Applications for roofing permits shall include a completed Section 11 of the Uniform Building
Permit, a copy of Ladrillera Santafe's current specifications and details, a copy of this Product
Control Approval and a copy of the Product Control Approval of any floofing Component used in
the proposed tile application. Reference Oa!! be made Co appropriate data for the required fire
rating. ' •
7. The applicant shall retain the services of a Dade County certified' testing laboratory to maintain
quality control in compliance with the South Florida Building Code and related protocols.

data, test reports no older than ten (10) years, have been re- evaluated.
All reports of re- testing shall bear the seal, signature and date of an . engineer registered in the State of
Florida.
2. Any revision or change in the materials, use, or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically
be cause for termination, unless prior approval is granted for revisions or change.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance of this product or process or a change in Code provisions shall be grounds
for re- evaluation.
4. This acceptance shall not be used as an endorsement of any product for sales or advertising purposes.
5. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the

APPENDIX "F "REQUIRED OWNERS NOTIFICATION FOR ROOFING CONSIDERATIONS
As it pertains to this Appendix "F ", it is the responsibility of the roofing contractor to provide the owner
with the required roofing permit, to provide the owner with this appendix and to explain to the owner the
content of this form. The provisions of Chapter 34 of the South Florida Building Code (SFBC) govern
the minimum requirements and standards of the industry for roofing system installations. Additionally,
the following items should be addressed as part of the agreement between the owner and the contractor.
The owner's initial in the adjacent box indicates that the item has been explained.
4(.,1. Aesthetics - Workmanship: The workmanship provisions of Chapter 34 are for the purpose of
pr. 4 ing that the roofing system meets the wind resistance and water intrusion performance standards.
Aesthetics (appearance) issues are not a consideration with respect to workmanship provisions. Aesthetic
issues such as color or architectural appearance, that are not part of a zoning code, should be addressed as
part of the agreement between the owner and the contractor.
2 Renailing Wood Decks: When replacing roofing, the existing wood roof deck may have to be
renailed in accordance with the current provisions Chapter 29 of the SFBC. (The roof deck is usually
concealed prior to removing the existing roof system)
45 3. Common Roofs: Common roofs are those which have no visible delineation between
neighboring units (i.e. townhouses, condominiums, etc.). In buildings with common roofs, the roofing
contractor and/or owner should notify the occupants of adjacent units of roofing work to be performed.
Exposed ceilings: Exposed, open beam ceilings are where the underside of the roof decking
can be viewed from below. The owner may wish to maintain the architectural appearance, therefore,
roofing nail penetrations of the underside of the decking may not be acceptable. The SFBC provides the
option of maintaining this appearance.
c---4/5. Ponding Water: The current roof system and /or deck of the building may not drain well and
may cause water to pond (accumulate) in low -lying areas of the roof. Ponding can be an indication of
structural distress and may require the review of a professional structural engineer. Ponding may shorten
the life expectancy and performance of the new roofing system. Ponding conditions may not be evident
until the original roofing system is removed. Ponding conditions should be corrected.,
‘------6. Overflow Scuppers (wall outlets): It is required that rainwater flow off so that the roof is not
overloaded from a build up of water. Perimeter /edge walls or other roof extensions may block this
discharge if overflow scuppers (wall outlets) are not provided. It may be necessary to install overflow
scuppers in accordance with Chapter 23 of the SFBC.
C- -/. Ventilation: Most roof structures should have some ability to vent natural airflow through the
interior of the structural assembly (the building itself). The existing amount of attic ventilation shall not
be reduced. It may be beneficial to consider additional venting which can result in extending the service
life of th- roof.
