At your request, I have enclosed information on pool safety nets for you to consider as an alternative to a four foot pool fence for my home at 1300 NE 94 Street in Miami Shores. I first heard of the pool net from my neighbors, Sid and Melinda Reese, they have eight children and they live in Miami Shores. The Reese family needed a pool barrier that would protect their youngest children from crawling into the poll and couldn't be left open by an absent - minded older child. Unlike a traditional mesh or vinyl pool cover, the pool net is a barrier that a child cannot fall through, and if a child falls face down on the pool net, they can easily right themselves up and crawl off of the netting, out of the pool. While a four foot pool fence does serve many Miami Shores families, we think that the pool net would be a better fit for our home for a number of reasons. First, I am afraid that our son could push the pool furniture up to the fence and unlock the pool fencing. At 16 months, he is already an adventurous and curious climber. Also, I am afraid that someone could leave the pool fence unlocked, and then it would no longer serve as an effective barrier to the pool. Finally, a pool fence is easily opened by any adult, and I am afraid that the pool fencing would not be an effective barrier to strangers trying to access our pool when we are out of town. The pool net takes about 5 -10 minutes to remove, and is not easy to remove if you are not familiar with the pool net. As you may know, we have a huge problem with the people hanging out by the bay trespassing in our backyard, and I don't want to be responsible for a stranger trespassing in my yard, opening up my pool fence, and jumping into my pool when I am out of town. Thank you for taking the time to look at the enclosed materials regarding pool safety nets and considering my request to install a pool safety net instead of a 4 foot pool fence. Please let me know if there is any other information that I can provide to you to help you in your decision. Sincerely, L I June eller 1300 NE 94 Street Miami Shores, FL 33138 (305) 725 -0262 junemheller @aol.com q F Home Products Financing Available. Subject to Approval. Conditions Apply. Why buy a pool net? Every parent knows the real worry of having open water near. The sad fact is we could lose one of our children in just 30 seconds. Pool fences are great security but what if the gate is left open? What if the child climbs over? For a pool alarm to be activated the child is already in the water. With a pool net all those fears fade away. We have never had a drowning with a correctly installed Katchakid. back to the top 2. Why a Katchakid? Katchakid is the original pool safety net system. With now over 30 years experience in this field we lead the pool safety net industry worldwide. Every system, every innovation, every advance within the pool net business, that we have seen, has been a Katchakid development. At the same time as we welcome more children being protected, by having more pools netted, we feel we must warn against inferior reproductions of the Katchakid. A net is not just a net and your child's life is at stake with a poor quality imitation back to the too 3. How strong is the Katchakid? The Katchakid pool nets are manufactured in durable High Density Polyethylene Braid 4mm in thickness. The ASTM bureau requires all nets and covers to support the weight of 485lbs and the Katchakid complies with this standard. The Katchakid is strong enough to support the weight of any adult. back to the too 4. What happens if my child falls or crawls onto the Katchakid? The Katchakid serves as a barrier between the child and the water. As long as the net is in good condition, properly positioned and tensioned, the net will support the weight of a young child near the pool's edge. Katchakid's unique mesh size has a dual action: small enough to prevent a toddler's head from penetrating the net while simultaneously large enough to discourage movement. Most children will find the Katchakid uncomfortable and abrasive to move on, which will deter any further crawling on the net. back to the top 5. What if my child falls face down on the Katchakid? This is obviously dependent of the age and weight of your child but most children under 5 years will be kept off the water and out of danger. If a child over 5 years falls face down on the Katchakid they are usually capable enough to get straight back up and off of the net. back to the top 6. Can a child remove the Katchakid or crawl underneath it? The Katchakid cannot be removed by most children under 12 years of age. If properly positioned, anchored and tensioned the net should not have any perimeter gaps for a child to crawl underneath. back to the top 7. How is the Katchakid secured to the pool? The Katchakid is custom shaped during installation either by our expert technicians or by you during a Katchakid DIY fitting. The Katchakid is then attached by a small stainless steel component to patented brass or nylon fasteners, spaced at +/- 30" intervals around the pool. For further information and pictures go to Katchakid Fittings back to the top 8. What is the central tensioning system? Katchakid first pioneered and patented the initial Central Tensioning System (CTS) In 1988. The CTS today is a multifaceted system that uses a series of pulley's set in a circular fashion, which open and close to control the tension of the net. The correct configuration and size of the CTS together with a necessary amount of pulleys determine a pool nets efficiency. The Katchakid uses an average of 12 to 16 pulleys per net. Larger pools, those over 40ft., usually require 2 CTS systems allowing the Katchakid to be removed, replaced and tightened with relative ease. back to the too 9. How long does it take to remove and replace the Katchakid and is it difficult? It generally takes 4 -5 minutes to remove the Katchakid and 8 -10 minutes to replace the net on an average swimming pool. Close to half of the Katchakid's regular users are female so we have developed our CTS system with this consideration. back to the top 10. Will the Katchakid interfere with my pool cleaner? No. When properly positioned, anchored and tensioned the Katchakid will not interfere with most standard pool cleaning equipment. back to the top 11. Is the Katchakid affected by the sun and or pool chemicals? No. The Katchakid pool netting is treated with laboratory developed maximum UV stabilized inhibitors. The Katchakid will not shrink or deteriorate when subjected to harsh climatic conditions. Our material will not fade. back to the top 12. My pool has a complex shape with a negative edge can it be covered? 30 years of operation equals a lot of nets and covers. There is no type of water feature that Katchakid hasn't made safe - from water reservoirs to municipality swimming pools and ponds. This vast experience makes it possible for us to undertake and cover any variety of water feature or unsafe area with total confidence. Over the years we have fitted nets and covers on: • Barges • Chemical plants • Clubs • Municipalities - pools and ponds • Orchestra pits • Schools • Ships • Stages • Stairwells • Sub - divisions - up to 80ft long • Water Reservoirs and Towers • Wave pools back to the top 13. What about rockeries and fountains - will the Katchakid spoil my water feature? Katchakid over the years has developed a variety of fittings and materials to use with garden features that are unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing. Our coal jet -black pond netting is designed so that one looks through it rather than at it. Once the net is established and plants have grown up through we find that one doesn't perceive the mesh at all. For an example click here. back to the too 14. How long can I expect my Katchakid to last? We would estimate that a Katchakid that has been treated with a reasonable amount of care would last an average of eight years. back to the top Products: The Katchakid I Using the Katchakid I Div I Safety Fence I Katchakid Ponds I Fittings and Components Measuring your Pool I Free Quote I Prices About Katchakid: Our Company I Pool Covers & Safety FAQ I Dealer Inquiries I location I Gallery I Contact Us I Links Safety: What Makes A Good Safety Net I Child Pool Safety I CPR Home KATCHAKID - helping to keep kids safe. Our reasons for not recommending a pool alarm: Pool safety reasoning is keep children out of the water. A child already in the water activates the swimming pool alarm. It can take 3 - 5 minutes for irreversible brain damage to occur and from as little as 30 seconds for death. Our reasons for not recommending the sole use of swimming pool safety fences: We feel that swimming pool safety fences are great pool protection but humans are fallible, gates can be left open, pool furniture and garden equipment can be left near the pool fence providing a convenient ladder for a small child. If a child penetrates a pool safety fence the water is then totally exposed and an immediate threat. Representatives from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Public Health Service, Dept. of Health and Human Services, Atlanta, Georgia reported in a study of childhood drowning that 76% of all USA residential pools are adequately fenced. The study suggests that If the proportion were increased by 100% most drownings of children under the age of 5 years would still not have been prevented. The study made the recommendation that additional strategies to prevent drowning other than pool fencing were needed.
