DESCRIPTION 1.1 This approves an aluminum storm panel designed to comply with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements as determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in Section 3. 2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS 2.1. The storm panels shall be constructed as indicated on approved drawing No. 94 -41, Sheet 1 of 4, using 0.063" thick aluminum, 5052 -H32 alloy. 2.2 Panels are rolled formed, have a nominal width of 12.00" and a total width of 15.50 ", forming 2" deep ribs. 2.3 Components shall be aluminum alloys 6063 -T5, "h" header, "u" header, 2 x 2 x 1/8 studded angles, a 1/8" thick 2.25" x 5.25" angle. 2.4 Tested specimen: Dimensions: 40" wide x 70" long overall 38 1/2" wide x 99" long overall 39" wide x 99" long overall 40" wide x 102" long overall 40" wide x 105" long overall 3. LIMITATIONS 3.1 The design will be dependent on the maximum panel span (height) of: 3.1.1 8' -0" or 96" for wall mount, attached to wall using an "h" header at top; a studded angle and wing nut at bottom, and a 1/8" x 1 1/2" alum. strap reinforcement across the whole width spaced at 24" o.c. 3.1.2 8' -9" or 105" for wall mount, attached to wall with studded angle and wing nut top and bottom. 3.1.3 7' -7 1/2" or 91 1/2" for inside mount, attached to wall using a "U" header at top; a studded angle and wing nut top and bottom, and a 1/8" x 1 1/2" alum. strap reinforcement across the whole width spaced at 24" o.c. 3.1.4 8' -6" or 102" for built -out mount, attached to wall using a "U" header at top; a studded angle and wing nut top and bottom both attached to a 2" x 5" x 1/8" alum. angle, and a 1" x 1" x 1/16" steel tube reinforcement across the whole width at midspan. 3.2 Minimum separation to existing glass to protect shall be: Reinforcement required Panel span up to: Min. No. 94 -41. 4. INSTALLATION 4.1 The panels shall be installed only in the following condition: 4.1.1 Wall Mount The panels are secured to an "h" header or angle at the head and to a 2" x 2" x 1/8" alum. studded angle, using 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" studs w /wing nut and washer spaced at 12" o.c. @ the sill, which are anchored to the wall, using the tension anchors shown on Sections A -A and B -B, "Wall Mounts" Sheet 2 of 4, of Dwg. No. 94 -41, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.1.2 Direct Mount The panels are secured directly to the wall at head and sill using 1/4" x 7/8" Rawl Calk -in or Star Tampin embedded into concrete or masonry, spaced at 12" o.c., as shown on Section "Direct Mounts ", Sheet 3 of 4, of Dwg. No. 94 -41, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.1.3 Buildout Mount The panels are secured to a "U" header at the head, which is anchored using 1/4 " -20 x 1/2" machine bolt & nut @ 6" o.c. to the long leg of a 2" x 3", 4" or 5" x 1/8" aluminum angle used to provide the buildout, which is anchored to the wall; and at the sill to a 2" x 2" x 1/8" alum. studded angle, using 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" studs w /wing nut and washer spaced at 12" o.c., which is also anchored using 1/4 " -20 x 1/2" machine bolt & nut @ 6" o.c. to the long leg of a 2" x 3 ", 4" or 5" x 1/8" aluminum angle. The build -out angles are anchored to the wall as shown on Section D -D, Sheet 2 of 4, of Dwg. No. 94 -41, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.1.4 Inside Mount The panels are secured inside a top track "U" Ceiling Mount Header at the head, which is anchored to the inside of the concrete lentil opening; and fastened to the 2" x 2" x 1/8" continuous studded aluminum Base Angle at the sill, using 1/4 " -20 machine bolt, wingnut and washer at 12" o.c., which is anchored to a concrete slab or bulkhead as shown on Section C -C, "Inside Mounts" Sheet 2 of 4, of Dwg. No. 94-41, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.1.5 Wall Mount on Wood Framing This installation is similar to the build -out & wall mount condition but anchored to a wooden substrate using the tension wood anchors as shown Section "Installation Detail ", Sheet 4 of 4, of Dwg. No. 94 -41, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. (Sill condition uses a continuous P.T. 2 x 4 stud or a continuous 1" x 4" 1/8" alum. tube sill). 4.1.6 Any combination of the above. Manuel-Perez, P.E.
