DEVOE TENNIS SYSTEMS BULLETIN OT -33 THE TOURNAMENT CATALOG NO. OTC -396 DEVOE'S outdoor Tournament Lighting System is today's highest standard for lighting tennis courts. This system is used in the finest facilities and most successful clubs throughout the United States. The 55 footcandles averaged maintained throughout the playing space permits the finest club tennis to be played. PLAYABILITY: This system —with the highest tournament levels of maintained footcandles of illumination in the tennis field— assures top playability, since the light striking and reflecting off the ball is a key criteria. It allows players to see the ball at all times. The DEVOE Tournament system avoids glare and blind spots, evenly distributes light throughout the entire playing space. Strobe is eliminated on ground strokes as well as lob shots. (Strobe is the optical illusion created by a ball in flight passing through various light intensities. Balls appear to slow down or speed up, causing players to see multiple images and fuzz balls.) The DEVOE system is AZ -1 1 cninungs ` ffLr e SUSM\H YSTEM: the only system that permits you to play 50 ft. lob shots. ECONOMICS: This highly efficient system converts electric energy into light energy into the needed zones for tennis, — in - the most efficient way. It requires only 15 KW to achieve this very high level of illumination. This system requires minimum maintenance and lamp replacement approximately every 5 years. The Tournament system utilizes 60 VHO lamps per court. FEASIBILITY: The DEVOE hanging system is designed to adapt to any court configuration. See Bulletin T -30B. Send DEVOE your court layout and we will be happy to layout your courts and specify the proper equipment necessary with no obligation. The most widely known of these uses is all weather tennis courts. In addition to tennis courts, such areas as playgrounds, walkways, parking lots and asphalt overlays of roof decks are often surfaced with Decoralt Coatings to enhance the appearance and provide a durable, high perfomance protective coating. Decoralt System Coatings are heavy bodied acrylic latex coatings that are pigmented and fortified with mineral fillers and fibers. They are supplied as a concentrate for dilution with water prior to application. Decoralt products are available as Decobase 920 -06, DecoColor Coating 920 -04 (also DecoColor XS Coating 920 -26 for "fast" surfaces) and DecoColor White Striping Paint 920 -22. Flintkote also offers Decobase Binder 920 -05 for job site mixing with local aggregates to produce a Decobase texture coat. DecoColor "MP" (Multi- Purpose) 920 -27 is also available and can be used as a Binder for mixing with local aggregates to make Decobase texture coat and it can_be— used- with - dilution - to - provide a DecoColor finish coat. Decoralt System Coatings are available in five standard colors, Green, Dark Green, Red, Dark Red and Beige, as well as White, or in a wide variety of custom tints to meet special requirements. The dried film resists weather, water, oil, grease and many solvents and chemicals. The Decoralt Color System is applied as a surfacing for new or previously uncolored pavement, and as a re- surfacing for areas with colorcoated sur- faces. The complete system includes several asphalt emulsion coatings for priming, sealing and repairing asphaltic pavement. Emulsion Primer 900 -10, Filler Coat Binder 900 -15 and Filler Coat 900 -20 are economical, functional materials that can be easily applied in preparation for final surfacing with the Decoralt Color System. Emulsion Primer 900-10 A fluid chemical emulsion containing surface active agents to aid in "wet- ting" pavement surfaces. It is stable to extensive dilution with cool, clean, soft water and is preferably applied in diluted form for thin -film coating. Filler Coat Binder 900-15 A heavy bodied asbestos fibrated asphalt emulsion of the mineral colloid type, which is designed for combining with fine sand to produce a levelling and filler coat mix for pavement surfacing. Filler Coat 900-20 A sand filled, asbestos fibrated mineral colloid asphalt emulsion. The blend of fillers, fibers and emulsion after minor dilution, produces an easily placed coating which cures rapidly without skinning over and is ready for further applications in a minimum of time. All fencing shall likewise be installed and approved, gates with locks shall be set so as to provide protection for the finish coatings. Bituminous pavement shall cure at least seven days prior to apply- ing color finish. SURFACE PREPARATION All unsound or broken areas of pavement shall be patched with an asphalt emulsion binder paving mix before primer or filler courses are applied. Any depressions in excess of that permitted by the specifications as determined by flooding the surface with water and allowing to drain shall be outlined with chalk. When the pavement surface has dried, the marked depressions shall be levelled with Flintkote Filler Coat 900 -20 or job mixed 900 -15 and sand, by means of a squeegee or straight edge screed. All other pavement surface irregularities or areas of coarse texture shall be filled and smoothed with applications of Filler Coat. Before applying Filler Coat for patching or as a complete levelling and filler course, surface shall be cleaned of all dirt, loose sand and stones, grease and oil, by flushing with high pressure water stream and brooming. Excess water in forms of pools or puddles must be removed. Surface can be damp, which is preferable to a dry surface. PRIMING Priming is necessary only if base pavement surface is too badly weathered to establish a strong bond with I SUGGESTED MIX Dilute DecoColor 920 -04 approximately two parts coating to one part cool, clean, potable water. • Filler Coat 900 -20. Where necessary, prime surfaces with 900 -10 Primer diluted with an equal part of cool, clean, potable water and allow to dry. If the need for priming is questionable, a test patch of 900 -20 on the unprimed base should be applied and tested for adhesion. APPLICATION OF ASPHALT FILLER COURSE An application of Filler Coat 900 -20 shall be made to the entire area of the court. Application is made paral- lel to one of the directions of the court. Care should be taken not to leave ridges of mix where adjoining applications overlap. Application is improved by keeping pavement damp with a fine mist spray. When first application has dried, a second applica- tion shall be made at 90° to the first course. Roll entire area to level the surface to a smooth, fine - textured finish. If birdbaths or other areas of unsatisfactory ap- pearance-are still present, further applications should be made to those areas. Total thickness of applied mix shall not exceed 1 /8 ". Pavements requiring greater thicknesses to produce a level surface should be paved with a pavement levelling mix before final surfacing is begun. SUGGESTED MIX Add 15 -20 gallons of water to each 55 gallons of Fill- er Coat 900 -20, mixing until all free water has disap- peared. COVERAGE The coverage of the above mix is 1 -2 gals. per 100 sq. ft. per coat depending on the texture of the base pavement. When ordering materials, figure 3 /4 - 1 gal. per 100 sq. ft. per coat. APPLICATION OF ACRYLIC TEXTURE COURSE Over the suitably prepared and cleaned bituminous pavement or over Filler Course, apply one or two coats of Decobase 920 -06, by means of a soft rubber edged squeegee. For all two coat applications, the coating shall be applied at 90° to each other with the last coat applied parallel to the long dimension of the court. Care should be taken not to leave ridges of coating where adjoining applications overlap. Keep surface damp with a fine mist water spray for improved application. When first coat has dried, a second application, if specified, shall be made at 90° to the first course. If specified, roll entire area when dry, to level the surface to a smooth fine textured finish. Ad- ditional applications may be made for levelling and increased film thickness if needed. SUGGESTED MIX Mix Decobase 920 -06 Coating with water (2 parts 920 -06; 1 part water) until smooth uniform consis- tency results. COVERAGE Diluted as recommended above, Decobase 920 -06 coverage is approximately 1 gallon per 100 sq. ft. per coat. When ordering materials figure 2/3 gallon per 100 sq. ft. per coat. APPLICATION OF SURFACING COURSE After the acrylic texture course has dried to a firm set, the final surface course of DecoColor 920 -04 shall be applied by means of a wide squeegee type brush parallel to the long dimension of the surface. Where a two coat applica- tion is desired the coating shall be applied at 90° to each other with the last coat applied parallel to the long dimen- sion of the court. SUGGESTED MIX Dilute DecoColor 920 -04 approximately two parts coating to one part cool, clean, potable water. COVERAGE Coverage is approximately 1 gal. per 100 sq. ft. per coat when diluted as above. When ordering material, figure 1/3 gal. per 100 sq. ft. per coat. BULLETIN OT -33 THE TOURNAMENT SYSTEM: CATALOG NO. Balls appear to slow down or speed up, causing players to see multiple images and fuzz balls.) The DEVOE system is the only system that permits you to play 50 ft. lob shots. ECONOMICS: This highly efficient system converts electric energy into light energy into the needed zones for tennis, in the most efficient way.
