An inspection of the`roof� structure at your ;property atthe above
referenced addre$s was December 22 ; The inspection
consisted of visual observat,ion'ofIthe wood.framing members and complete
measurements of the spans. and. spacings of these members.., observation
revealed that the wood .;frami both.,the ; •rafters'; and the ceiling
joists, apeared to be. in good'. condition.'." There was no evidence of excessive
sagging or warping They did Lnot ; appear ,to . be termite damaged or rotten.
It is my opinion that continueAo function in
their present capacity:; supporting`the' existing roof; or a roof of similar
type weight.
At the request of the residents, Mr. ,& Mrs., Barba t ,`'.structural calculations
were made to determine the adequacy.•of these: same.memhers in supporting
a cement tile roof. 'My findings - ' indicate that' these' same members are
inadequate to support the additional weight of'. cement.tile roof. My
calculations indicate that these members, would need a. bending fiber
stress in excess of 2000 pounds per - square inch.. That particular bending
fiber stress is well beyond what could be antidipated'to :be the allowable
bending fiber stress for the wood observed. - I that
the tile not be" placed on this roof as framed in- present condition,
