DESCRIPTION 1.1 This approves an aluminum accordion type shutter, designed to comply with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements as determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in Section 3. 2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Main blade shall be 4.259" wide x .062" to .050" thick (tapered), constructed as indicated on approved drawing No. 94 -46 Sheet 1 of 4, using extruded aluminum alloy 6063 -T6, while auxiliary slats, (.062" thick x various length), and rest of the components shall be constructed as indicated on the same drawings and using the same extruded aluminum alloy, as noted. 2.2 Blade pins shall be #12 x 3" Sheet Metal Screws made of Series 410 galvanized stainless steel. 2.3 Tested specimen: 2.3.1 Blades dimensions: 38" wide x 97" long overall, (91" long for ceiling -floor mount) 2.3.2 Additional test: Blades were 38" wide x 111" long 2.3.3 Additional test for comparative analysis: Blades were 39" x 96 ", 39" x 111" and 39" x 150 ". 3. LIMITATIONS 3.1 Maximum blade height or span: 150" 3.2 Minimum separation between glass to be protected and shutter: 3 1/4" 3.3 Special requirement: 3.3.1 A maximum of 1/4" clearance is allowed between bottom of blade and top of bottom sill and top blade and bottom of header. 3.3.2 Locking rods shall remain attached to shutters at all time, secure tightly with thumb screws in the locked position during hurricane warning. 3.3.3 A Key Lock (placed facing outside or inside) is required to be installed at midspan for each shutter application and must be activated during hurricane warning. 4. INSTALLATION 4.1 The panels shall be installed in the following conditions: 4.1.1 Ceiling & Floor Mount (Inside Mount) Every fourth blade hangs from a set of double rollers that mounts on the track of the ceiling or wall mount header. Every blade has one pin at the bottom consisting of a special stainless steel screw and a nylon bushing that slides on the inside track or the outside wall of the bottom adjustable sill track and floor channel assembly. No. 94 -46, Sheets 2 and 3 of 4. 4.1.2 Wall Mount (Direct Mount) In this mounting arrangement, the Wall Mount Header and the bottom sill track, which is the same header upside down, are each fastened to the face of a poured concrete lentil and at the bottom to a poured concrete sill or concrete block wall, as shown in Section A -A "Wall Mounts" on Sheet 2 of 4. 4.1.3 • Built -Out Mount In this mounting arrangement, the Ceiling Mount Header is attached to the long leg of a 2 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 1/8" (or smaller) aluminum angle, which in turn is anchored to the wall. The sill section is basically the same thing turned upside down, as shown in Section C -C "Built Out Condition ". An alternate arrangement is using the Wall Mount Header fastened to a 3" x 3" x 1/8" (or smaller) aluminum tube, which in turn is anchored to the wall. The sill condition consists of the same parts upside down 4.1.4 Anv combination of the above 4.2 Anchorage of the shutters shall be to concrete, masonry and /or wood framing and shall consist of only the anchors A, B, D, and E listed on page 4 of 4 and using tables on each Section Detail to determine which chart to use and apply their corresponding spacing specified on Charts 1 thru 12 also on page 4 of 4 on Drawing No. 94 -46, Sheets 1 thru 4 of 4. Substitution of anchor type or indicated embedment is unacceptable and is to be engineered separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be of stainless steel or have adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original submitted documents, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of this Acceptance. 3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if: a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the product is not in compliance with the code changes; b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved; c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct installation of the product; d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted, is no longer practicing the engineering profession. 4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office. 5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance: a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process; b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes. 6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County. Florida, and followed by the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety. 7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents. where it applies, shall be provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. The copies need not be resealed by the engineer. 8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance. 9. This Acceptance contains pages 1, 2, 2(a) through 2(d) and this last page 3. Items 10, 11 & 12 listed below only apply to glazed products and doors 10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section. 11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as indicated in Section 4 of this Notice of Acceptance. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall be as indicated in Section 4 of this Notice of Acceptance, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each comer and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing. 12.
