The provisions of Chapter 34 of the South Florida Building Code. (SFBC) govern all the minint;:,;t requirements and standards of the industry for roofing system installations. Additionally, the following items should be addressed as part of the agreement between the owner and the contractor. The owner's initial in' the adjacent box indicates that the item has been explained. 1. Aesthetics- Workmanship: The \vorkntanship provisions or Chapter 34 are for the purpose or pro iding that the roofing system sleets the wind resistance and water intrusion performance standards. Aes :hetics (appearance) issues are not a consideration with respect to workmanship provisions. Aesthetic issues such as color or architectural appearance, that are not part of a zoning code, should be addressed as part of the agreement between the owner and the contractor. 2. Renailing \Vood Decks: When replacing roofing. the existing wood roof deck may have to be renaited in ccordance with the current provisions of Chapter 29 of the SFBC. (The roof deck is usually concealed prior to rem oving the existing roof system) 3. Common Roofs: Common roofs are those which have no visible delineation between neighboring u i.e. townhouses, condominiums, etc.). In buildings with common roofs, the roofing contractor and /or ow ._r should notify the occupants of adjacent units of roofing \'.'ork to be performed. 4. Exposed ceilings: Exposed, open beam ceilings are where the underside of the roof decking can bc vi ved from below. The owner may wish to maintain the architectural appearance, therefore, roofing nail p• netrations of the underside of the decking may not be acceptable. The SFBC provides the option of maintaining this appearance. S. Ponding Water: The current roof system and /or deck of the building, may not drain well and nta\ calf ;, water to pond (accumulate) in low-lying 'areas of the roof. Ponding can bc an indication of structural dis ress and may require the review of a profess'ional structural engineer. Pondina may shorten the life expectancy and performance of the new roofing system. Ponding conditions may not be evident until the original roofing system is removed. Ponding conditions should be corrected. 6. Overflow Scuppers (~wall outlets): It is required that rainwater flow off so that the roof is no' oven .aded from n build up of water. Perimeter. /edge walls or other roof extensions may block ti;is discharge overflow scuppers (wall outlets) are not provided. GENERAL LIMITATIONS Product Control No.: 97- 0520.01 • All asphalt shall comply with ASTM D 312, type (I1 or IV requirements and approved by applicant. 2 Fire ratings are determined by a combination of slope, deck type and assembly. Refer to the current Underwriters Laboratories Roofing Materials Directory or other fire testing data listed in the testing file. Fire ratings shall be in strict compliance with Sections 3401.5 and 3401.6 of the South Florida Building Code. 3 Maximum slope range varies for each system. Consult the current Underwriters Laboratories Roofing Materials Directory and manufacturer's specifications for compliance with design criteria for each project. 4 An overlay and/or recovery board is required on all applications over closed cell foam insulations when the base sheet is fully mopped in hot asphalt. 5 All work shall be performed by a contractor licensed to do roofing work in Metro -Dade County. Contractor shall be familiar with the details and specifications published by the manufacturer and the requirements of the South Florida Building Code. 6 The submission of system specifications and details shall accompany the Section 1l Building Code Permit. This information is available in the publications listed in the `System Description' of this Product Control Approval. The submission of these documents, as well as the proper application and installation of all materials shall be the sole responsibility of the contractor. 7 Perimeter and corner areas shall comply with the elevated design pressures of these roof areas, as calculated in compliance with Chapter 23 of the South Florida Building Code. Anchor or base sheet fastening patterns and/or insulation attachment densities shall be increased in compliance with the provisions set forth in Metro -Dade County Roofing Application Standard PA 117 to meet these elevated design pressures. 8 All attachment and sizing of perimeter nailers, metal profile and/or flashing termination designs shall conform to Metro -Dade County Roofing Application Standard PA 1 1 1 and the wind load requirements of Chapter 23 of the South Florida Building Code. 9 Flashings shall be installed according to the manufacturer's standard details and may be applied in cold application adhesive, approved asphalt or may be applied in conjunction with an approved torch applied modified bitumen membrane. Specific details, approved by the manufacturer, shall be submitted with the Section 11 Permit Application. All details shall comply with the provisions of the South Florida Building Code. 10 Fastener spacing for anchor or base sheet attachment is based on a Minimum Characteristic Resistance Force (F') as determined through field testing in compliance with Metro -Dade County Protocol PA 105 or PA 105(A). If F', as tested, is less than that listed in the System Limitations, a professional engineer may submit revised fastener spacings utilizing F', taken from a Metro -Dade County Protocol PA 105 or PA 105(A) test report, and the provisions set forth in Metro -Dade County Roofing Application Standard PA 117. I I Fastener density for insulation attachment is based on a Minimum Characteristic Resistance Force (F') as determined through field testing in compliance with Metro -Dade County Protocol PA 105. IfF', as tested, is less than 275 lbf., insulation attachment shall not be acceptable. 12 Asphalt moppings shall be applied with approved asphalt and shall be in compliance with the equiviscous temperature (EVT) methods of asphalt determination. Asphalt containers or bulk tickets shall indicate an EVT, finished blowing temperature (FBT) and flash point. Asphalt types and temperature ranges shall be in compliance with Subsection 3403.4(A)(3) of the South Florida Building Code. 13 Insulation may be applied in multiple layers. The first layer shall be attached in compliance with the Product Control Approval guidelines. All other layers shall be adhered in a full mopping of approved asphalt applied within the EVT range and at a rate of 20 -40 lbs. /sq., or mechanically attached using the fastening pattern of the top layer. Test pressures shall be calculated in compliance with the wind load requirements of Chapter 23 of the South Florida Building Code for the roof in question. 16 In re- roofing applications, moisture content in an existing roof must be in compliance with Subsection 3401.10(m), (n) of the South Florida Building Code. 17 Roof goods shall be stored on end and on a clean, flat and dry surface. 18 If required, any Factory Mutual Approved vapor barrier in conjunction with proprietary or approved adhesives may be used prior to the application of the insulation layer. 19 Consult current Underwriters Laboratories Directory for the appropriate coating for each roofing assembly to obtain the required fire rating. The total of the tested roof surface area was less than 10000 square feet, and the mean height of the roof is less than 30 feet above ground surface. The type of tile used for this project was reported to be Hanson Roof Tile. This tile was reported to have been foamed in place. At the time of this testing, one test for every corner, one test for every 100 square feet of roof tile in the perimeter area and one test for every 200 square feet of roof tile in the field area were tested. Initially the entire area of the roof was examine for loose tile. More than 10% of the roof tile located in the field area and more than 20% of the roof tile at the roof perimeter and corner were physically examined. INSTALLATION 4.1 Polypro® AH160 may be used with any roof tile assembly having a current NOA that lists uplift resistance values with the use of Polypro® AH160. 4.2 Polypro® AH160 shall be applied in compliance with the Component Application section and thc corresponding Placement Details noted herein. The roof tile assembly's adhesive attachment with the use of Polypro® A!•l 160 shall provide sufficient attachment resistance, expressed as an uplift based system, to meet or exceed the uplift resistance determined in compliance with Miami -Dade County Roofing Application Standards RAS 127. The adhesive attachment data is noted in the roof tile assembly NOA 4.3 Polypro® AH160 roof the adhesive and its components shall be installed in accordance with Roofing Application Standard RAS 120, and Polyfoam Products, Inc. Polypro® AH160 Operating Instruction and Maintenance Booklet. 4.4 Installation must be by a Factory Trained 'Qualified Applicator' approved and licensed by Polyfoam Products, Inc. Polyfoam Products Inc. shall supply a list of approved applicators to the authority having jurisdiction. 4.5 Calibration of the Foanipro® dispensing equipment is required before application of any adhesive. The mix ratio between the "A" component and the "B" component shall be maintained between 1.0 -1.15 (A) : 1.0 (B). The dispense timer shall be set to deliver 0.0175 to 0.15 pounds per tile as determined at calibration. No other settings shall be approved. 4 .6 Polypro® AF!
