In accordance with your request and authorization, a representative of Reileh Engineering
Corporation completed the Roof Tile Uplift Test al: the above referenced project. This testing was
performed in general accordance with Roofing Application Standard TAS No.106 -- Standard
procedure for field verification of the bonding of mortar or adhesive set tile system and mechanically
attached, rigid, discontinuous roof systems.
The total of the tested roof surface area was less than 10000 square feet, and the mean height of the
roof is less than 40 feet above ground surface. The type of tile used for this project was reported to
be Concrete/ Clay Roof Tile. This tile was reported to have been foamed in place.
At the time of our inspection, the entire area of the roof was examined for loose tiles. Not less than
one (1) tile in ten (10) of all components in the field area and one (1) tile in five (5) of all tiles in the
perimeter and comer areas were physically examined. A minimum of one (1) test per every two (2)
squares in the field, one (1) test per square in the perimeter area and (1) in the comer areas were
conducted.
Based on our test results, we conclude that the installation of the roof tile at the above referenced
project meets the test requirement outlined in the above- mentioned protocol. Attached please find
a copy of our test report for your review.

1. Aesthetics- Workmanship: The workmanship provisions of Chapter 15 (High Velocity Hurricane
ne) are for the purpose of providing that the roofing system meets the wind resistance and water intrusion
rformance standards. Aesthetics (appearance) issues are not a consideration with respect to workmanship
provisions. Aesthetic issues such as color or architectural appearance, that are not part of a zoning code, should
be addressed as part of the agreement between the owner and the contractor.
2. Renailing Wood Decks: When replacing roofing, the existing wood roof deck may have to be
nailed in accordance with the current provisions of Chapter 16 (High Velocity Hurricane Zones) of the Florida
uilding Code. (The roof deck is usually concealed prior to removing the existing roof system).
'•2 3. Common Roofs: Common roofs are those which have no visible delineation between neighboring
i f is (i.e. townhouses, condominiums, etc.). In buildings with common roofs, the roofing contractor and/or
caner should notify the occupants of adjacent units of roofing work to be performed.
4. Exposed Ceilings: Exposed, open beam ceilings are where the underside of the roof decking can be
ed from below. The owner may wish to maintain the architectural appearance, therefore, roofing nail
netrations of the underside of the decking may not be acceptable. The Florida Building Code provides the
ption of maintaining this appearance.
. Poiiding Water: The current roof system and/or deck of the building may not drain well and may

expectancy and performance of the new roofing system. Ponding conditions may not be evident until the
original roofing system is removed. Ponding conditions should be corrected.

This technical data sheet provides specifications and various methods of application for

are then fired to obtain a stoneware grade product. As with any natural material, slight variation
in size and shade is to be expected.
To obtain the. amount of pieces needed at the ridge, .hip and gable areas. use the following
formula: of lineal feet x 0.8 = amount of pieces required.
Clay roofing tiles shall he AT:HAMRRA hand -made clay barrel roofing tiles.

Hip and ridge shall be ALHAMBRA tile laid with 15" exposure.
Asphalt Plastic Cement: Heavy body composed of asphalt and other minerals, conforming

Cement Mortar: The mortar used under the hip, ridge, eave, and field tile shall be ICBO's
Type given in Table No. 2401 Mortar proportion.
Optional Mortar Mix: Portland cement Type 1 conforming, to ASTM C - 150 /Masonry
cement conforming to ASTM C-91/sand: Clean and free of organic materials, uniformly graded,
conforming to ASTM C -144 Coloring compound: oxide to match tile color, or natural grey.

FLASHINGS
Line all valleys with either 16 oz. Copper or 26 gauge galvanized sheet metal. All valley
flashings shall be a minimum of 24" wide. Valley flashing shall be lapped a minimum of 6 ".
Dormer sides, chimney's and other vertical wall surface flashings shall extend upward at
least 6" and be completely counter- flashed. FJas.hing shall extend under the tile a minimum of 5"

Roofing felt is to be marked off with guidelines prior to rooftop delivery of the tiles.
Horizontal and vertical lines will be chalked on the felt to obtain a professionally installed,
watertight roof tile system.
Mark all horizontal lines at 1 5 o_c_ from the eave line, extending up the roof slope to
the ridge. A short corusc at the ridge may be needed. Set the first coarse at 16" from the eave,
this will provide a 2" overhang at the eave. Next, mark s:11 vertical lines at 11. `!" o.c. Right to
left, with the first line marked. 10" from the gable end.
At the eave line a 1" x 2" wood strip or 1" raised facia above the sheathing to boost the
first row of tiles. Colored mortar, or manufactured bird stops can be used.
Fasten and cement all gable rakes on the 15%" horizontal lines. For mortar on
installation system, each tile corning in contact with mortar shall be damped with water to avoid
drying out of mortar before setting and curing. Each pan tile shall be set over a full trowel of
mortar, centering the piece over the vertical guideline, to keep the row straight. Press down the
tile frnily to allow wet mortar to spread evenly under the tile creating a better bond. After
installing a maximum of 2 rows at a time, corresponding cover tilt arc to be installed over the
installed pans, be embedding side laps with mortar.
On extremely steep roofs (above 6/12 pitch) tile is to he fastened with. a tile tie system, or
installed over wood Hailers of proper height.
Where tile overlaps tlashings., the the must he wired and cemented in place.
Tiles must be cut smooth and straight to maintain a proper width in the open valley.
Width of the open valley may vary according to local conditions. It is recommended that the
minimum width be 4" of exposed metal.
Where field tiles meet the hip nailers, tiles should be cut along the hip boards. The joint
between the cut tile and the hip nailer shall be sealed neatly with plastic. cement.
All hip and ridge tiles shall he set in a bed of mortar and fastened with a 21/2" nail. It is
then recommended that the mortar be pointed to a smooth, clean surface.
All eave dies shall be set in a bed of !Mortar of sufficient height to completely fill the void
under the barrel. tile. A. vent hold (weep hole) should he :neatly punched and the mortar finished
smooth and flush with the eave metal.
