Tamko Awaplan has been marketed by Tamko since 1977 combining built -up technology with the
advances in modified bitumen products.
Built -up roof specifications can be found in the 500 (ply IV) and 600 (ply VI) specification series.
Specifications can be found in "Commercial Roofing Specifications and Details ", published by Tamko
annually.
Tamko built -up roof systems may be used in conjunction with Tamko Awaplan modified bitumen.
Details shall be installed in compliance with Tamko published or job approved details.

Fire ratings are listed in the current Underwriters Laboratories Directory.
Modified bitumen specificatons can be found in the 100, 200 and 700 series specificaions published

The Tamko line of modified bitumen products includes polyester reinforced SBS modified membranes
formulated with shell Kraton rubber modified asphalt. In addition Tamko manfactures a fiberglass
reinforced base and cap sheet in a standard and firc rated version. To complete the modified Zinc, SBS
modified basc sheets and flashing materials are offered by Tamko.

recommends that all asphalt be applied at the EVT temperature

Limitations:
1. Only Factory Mutual Approved fastening assemblies listed with the insulation type shall be used over 18 -22
gauge steel, concrete, and cementitious wood fiber decks.
2. Fire ratings are determined by a combination of slope, deck type and assembly. Refer to
current Underwriters Laboratories Roofing Materials Directory or other fire testing data listed in the
testing file. Fire ratings shall be in compliance with Sections 3401.5 and 3401.6 of the South
Florida Building Code.
3. Tarnko roof systems shall be installed in strict accordance with Manufacturer's
specifications and in compliance with the installation requirements to meet the South Florida
Building Code.
. 4. Fastening patterns for insulation and base sheet attachment shall not be
less than the patterns listed in this approval. Perimeters and corners, as defined in the Factory
Mutual Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1 -28 and 1, -28(S) shall have an increase of fasteners of 50 %.
5. All work shall be performed by applicators trained and licensed by Tamko.

6. Design velocity pressures shall be calculated in compliance with Section 2309 of the
South Florida Building Code. Tamko assemblies shall be installed that have been tested
and approved to the calculated pressures. (Refer to Table 23 -C of the South Florida
Building Code.)
Applications for roofing permits must be accompanied by two duplicate sets of roof plans and details approved by
the architect or project engineer clearly indicating the extent of work to be performed, along with copies of current
manufacturer's specifications and details. In addition, the permit application must contain the specific system and
the number designated in this approval with all options clearly identified. Reference shall be made to all
appropriate test data for the required fire rating. A section of the roof assembly on the Metro -Dade Office of Code
Compliance Worksheet shall also be submitted with the permit application.

1. Extension of Acceptance may be considered after a new application has been filed and the supporting data,
test reports no older than ten (10) years, have been re- evaluated.
All reports of re- testing shall bear the seal, signature and date of an engineer registered in the State of
Florida.
2. Any revision or change in the materials, use, or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically
be cause for termination, unless prior approval is granted for revisions or changc.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance of this product or process or a changc in Code provisions shall be grounds
for re- evaluation.
4. This acceptance shall not be used as an endorsement of any product for sales or advertising purposes.
5. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the
expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is
displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety.
6. Product approval drawings, where required for permit applications, shall be provided to the applicant by
the manufacturer or his distributors; unless otherwise noted in the Notice of Acceptance. The prints need not
be re- scaled by an engineer.

asphalt) with approximately 23 lbs. (t 15 %) of specification asphalt per 100 sq. ft.
The asphalt should be above 400"F at the point of application and mopped no more
than 4 ft. in front of the roll (see Section 8.0).
Flashing: The flashing material must be a TAMKO polyester reinforced modified
asphalt flashing material (see Section 30.0).
U.L. Class A Requirements:
Noncombustible deck: maximum slope 1/4 ".
Insulation: none.
Surfacing: flood coat & gravel, TAM -CAP, or accepted coating.

Deck: The deck should conform to TAMKO general requirements (see

Asphalt: The asphalt should be certified by the manufacturer to meet AS "I
D -312, Type III for slopes up to 1/4 in. and Type IV for slopes up to 3 in.

Type 43 Coated Base Sheet/VERSA-BASE: Starting at the low point of the
roof, install 1 ply of TAMKO Type 43 Coated Base Sheet or VERSA -BASE, side
lapped 2 in. and end lapped 4 in. Apply at a right angle to the slope of the roof. Nail
the sheet along the lap at intervals of no more than 9 in., and stagger -nail on 18 in.
centers along two lines located 12 in. from each edge of the base sheet (see Sec-
tion 10.0).
AWAPLAN 170: Starting at the low point of the roof, install 1 layer of TAMKO
AWAPLAN 170 granule surfaced sheet, side lapped 4 in. and end lapped 6 in. The
