quality control testing. If this product or material fails to perform in the approved manner, the Code
Compliance Office may revoke, modify, or suspend the use of such product or material immediately. The
applicant shall re- evaluate this product or material should any ammendments to the South Florida Building
Code be enacted affecting this product or material. The Building Code Compliance Office reserves the
the right to revoke this approval, if it is determined by the Building Code Compliance Office that this

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
This approves an extruded aluminum roll -up shutter designed to comply with the South Florida
Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements, as
determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not
exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in
Section 3.
2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1. Slats: The slats shall be extruded as indicated on approved Dwg. No. 95 -001 Sheet 3 of 17, using
aluminum alloy 6063 -T6. This slat configuration, Model 1155 Ext, Die Dwg.No. SOS -114, has a
total width of 2.665 ", a max. depth of .530" and a typical wall thickness of .050 ". For maximum Slat
Span vs. Design Load, for single, double and triple span configuration, see corresponding charts on
Sheet 4 of 17.
2.2 Storm Bars; Provide the two and three span options, spans vertically from floor to ceiling or from
floor to header or top support; where the width of a window opening exceeds the maximum single
span of the slats, intermediate support(s) shall be provided by double storm bars permanently
installed, permitting the slats to resist both inward and outward pressures. Consist of an extruded
tube and I -beam reinforcement, both of aluminum alloy 6061 -T6, tube sizes are:
2.2.1 2" Options - (HC2) - (SOS -7) 2" x .876" x .050 "/.086" alum. tube used alone,
(AC2) - in conjuction with (SOS -20) 1.75" x .75" x .094" web I -beam stiffener,
(SC2) - or with a 1.700" x .725" x .119" thick formed steel channel.
2.2.2 2 1/2" Options - (HC2 1/2) - (SOS -6) 2.5" x 1.188" x .062 "/.076" alum. tube used alone,
(AC2 1/2) - in conjuction with (SOS -19) 2.25" x 1.00" x .094" web I -beam,
(SC2 1/2) - or with a 2.230" x .870" x .119" thick formed steel channel.
2.2.3 3 1/2" Options - (HC 3 1 /2) - (SOS -39) 3.562" x 1.625" x .094 "/.198" alum. tube used alone,
(AC3 1/2) - in conjunction with (SOS -98) 3.05" x 1.375" x .124" web 1 -beam,
(XAC 3 1/2) - and a 2.50" x .25" alum. bar stiffener,
(XXAC3 1/2) - and two 2.50" x .25" alum. bar stiffeners, inside the whole length
of the tube. See Sheet 3 for components, Sheet 15 for maximum Storm Bar Height vs. Design
Pressure and Slat Span for each option and Sheet 16 of 17 for Storm Bar connections.
2.3 Header (Top Support): Provides structural top support for interior storm bar on two and three span
applications, spans the shutter width horizontally from wall to wall, wall to mullion or mullion to
mullion. Consists of a reinforced extruded tube of aluminum alloy 6063 -T5, tube sizes are:
2.3.1 1 1/2" Options - (HC1 1/2 x 3) - (TA -6136) 1 1 /2" x 3" x 1/8" alum. tube used alone,
(AC1 1/2 x 3) - in conjunction with 1 1/4" x 2 3/4" x 3/16" alum. channel,
(SC1 1/2 x 3) - or with a 1 1/4" x 2 3/4" x 3/16" steel formed channel.
2.3.2 2" Options - (HC2 x 4) - (TA- 6044) 2" x 4" x 1/8" alum. tube used alone,
(AC2 x 4) - in conjunction with 1 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 3/16" alum. channel,

2.4 Mullion (Post): Provides structural end support for single and multiple span applications, spans the
shutter height vertically from floor to ceiling. Consist of extruded tubes of aluminum alloy
6063 -T6, tube sizes are:
2.4.1 T Options - (HC T) - (SOS -108) 3.640" x 1.812 "/2.250" x .125" alum. T tube used alone,
(AC T) - in conjunction with (SOS -107) 3.080" x 1.438 "/1.876" x .688" T Stiffener,
(XAC T) - and two (TA -148) 2.500" x .375" alum. bars.
2.4.1 3 1/2" Options - (HC 3 1/2) - (SOS -39) 3.562" x 1.625" x .094 "/.198" alum. tube used alone,
(AC3 1/2) - in conjunction with (SOS -98) 3.05" x 1.375" x .124" web I -beam,
(XAC 3 1/2) - and two 2.50" x .250" alum. bar stiffeners, inside the whole length
of the tube. See Sheet 3 for Components. For maximum Mullion Height vs. Design Pressure and
Slat Span for each configuration, see Sheet 7 for Mullion with Single Track Options and Sheet 8 for
Mullion with Double Track Options. For Fastening Schedules see Sheet 9 of 17.
2.5 Side Rails (Tracks): Provide lateral support for slats, run vertically and are anchored directly to the
wall, on the wall mounting option, or thru a mullion on the free span mount option. Consists of
extruded shapes of aluminum alloy 6061 -T6, size is: (2 1/4" Track) 2.250" x 1.059" x .060" wall
thickness, as shown on Sheet 3 of 17. See Sheets 5 thru 9 of 17 for Track Mounting Connection
options to wall or mullions and Fastening Schedules.
2.6 Reel Box: Consists of two aluminum alloy 5052 -H32 Gusset Plates at the housing ends,
attached to the housing at each end using two(2) 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" 18 -8 SS bolt and nut; has a return on
one side that accomodates two (2) anchors to the wall and a return on another side that accomodates
two (2) 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" 18 -8 SS bolt and nut to support the header (when it applies); also has a
receptor for the side rail ends. This box contains covers in the front, bottom and top. For Housing
Sizes, Mounting Conditions, Details and Fastening Schedules, see Sheets 10 thru 12 of 17.
2.7 Other components shall be aluminum alloys: 6063 -T6, Top Hood Extrusion and Hat Clips (SOS -6)
(SOS -7) 4 3/8" long x 1 3/4" wide x 2" high x .187" thick; 6005 -T5, Bottom Hood Extrusion; and
6061 -T6, aluminum angles of various sizes 1/8" thick and Hat Clip (SOS -39) (SOS -108) 4 7/8" long
x 1 1/2"or 1 7/8" wide x 2" high x .250" thick.
2.8 Tested specimen:
2.8.1 36" wide x 48" high 36" span for static load.
2.8.2 48" wide x 48" high 48" span, 3 specimens for static load.
2.8.3 64" wide x 48" high 64" span for static load, impact and cycling.

3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 The design will be dependent on the maximum Slat Span vs. Design Load chart corresponding to the
Single Span, Two Spans or Three Spans application to a maximum slat span of 64" as shown on
Sheet 4 of 17, to be installed only as outlined on drawing No. 95 -001 Sheets 1 thru 17 of 17.
3.2 Minimum separation to existing glass to protect shall be:
This separation is: a.) From glass to slats for single span shutters.
b.) From glass to nearest side of storm bars for multiple span shutters.
Use the following table:
3.3 Minimum slat engagement inside of side track shall be 7/8 ".
3.4 Slat Orientation: Concave side or convex side to the exterior.
3.5 Special Requirement Storm Bar configurations HC 2, AC 2 and HC 2 1/2" cannot be used on
installations up to 30' 0" above grade.
4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The roll -up shutters shall be installed in the following conditions:
4.1.1 Wall Mount
The Side Tracks are directly anchored to the wall or intermediate mullion; the Reel Box is
also anchored to the exterior side of the wall or intermediate mullion, as shown in "Wall Mount"
Section on Sheet 5 and "Surface Mount" Section on Sheet 10 of Dwg. No. 95 -001, bearing the Dade
County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.2 Inside Mount
In this mounting condition the Side Tracks are fastened, using 1/4 " -20 x 1" SS bolt & nut, or
#12 - x 3/4" Drillflex Tek screws, spaced (according to schedule), to the short leg of 3" x 2" x 1/8"
aluminum angles that are anchored to the wall inside the opening or to an intermediate mullion
anchored inside the opening; and the Reel Box is anchored directly to the underside of a concrete
lintel, as shown in Section 2 "Inside Mount" on Sheet 5; Section 4 "Freespan" on Sheet 6 and
Section 2 "Ceiling Mount" on Sheet 10 of Dwg. No. 95 -001, bearing the Dade County Product
Control approval stamp.

4.1.3 Built Out Condition
In this mounting condition the Side Tracks are fastened, using 1/4 " -20 x 1" SS bolt & nut, or
#12 -14 x 3/4" Drillflex Tek screws, spaced (according to schedule), to the long leg of 5 1/4" x 2 1/4"
x 1/8" aluminum angles that are anchored to the wall and provide the build out, the Reel Box is also
fastened using two (2) 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" SS bolt & nut to each of the same angles, as shown in Section
3 "Build Out" on Sheet 6 and Section 3 "Angle Build Out" on Sheet 10 of Dwg. No. 95 -001, bearing
the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.4 Any combination of the above
4.2 Anchorage of the shutters shall be to concrete, masonry and /or wood framing and shall consist of
only the anchors specified on drawing No. 95 -001, Sheets 1 thru 17 of 17. Substitution of anchor
type or indicated embedment is unacceptable and are to be engineered separately.
Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be made of stainless steel or have
adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals not considered
compatible shall be properly protected.
4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not in
use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time.
4.4 The shutters shall be provided with adequate locking devices for securing the shutters in the closed
position during a hurricane warning.
4.5 The mechanism for operating the shutter, not included in this present approval shall be certified by a
recognized testing agency.
5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance.
6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing size and location, including height above grade,
of openings to receive shutters; mean roof height, length and width of building.
6.1.3 Duplicate prints of approved drawings No. 95 -001, Sheets 1 thru 17 of 17, bearing the
approval stamp, Notice of Acceptance number and date by Dade County Product Control
Section, clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed installation.
6.2 The Building Official shall verify the figures used in calculating the overall deflections in sheet 13,
header connection to mullions and ensure the adequacy of shutter to meet the pressure requirement
of the opening in which it is to be installed.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: STANDARD CONDITIONS
1. Extension of Acceptance may be considered after a new application has been filed and the
supporting data, test report no older than ten (10) years, have been re- evaluated.
All reports of re- testing shall bear the seal, signature and date of an engineer registered in the State of
Florida.
Any revision or change in the materials, use, or manufacture of the product or process shall
automatically be cause for termination, unless prior approval is granted for revisions or change.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance of this product or process or a change in Code provisions shall be
ground for re- evaluation.
4. This acceptance shall not be used as an endorsement of any product for sales or advertising purposes.
5. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the
expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance
is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety.
6. AA copy of'this approval as well as approved drawings and other documents shall be provided to the
applicant by the manufacturer or his distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at
all time. The prints need not be re- sealed by the engineer.
7. Failure to comply with Standard Conditions shall be cause for termination of Approval.
