The site is linked to several of the original Dade County families. The step- daughter of Michael Oxar, who homesteaded in Dade County pro-1870, married Edward Barnott, whose homestead was adjacent to this property. After E. Barnott's death, she married Peden and the properties were combined. The property remained in the family into the mid- 1900s. The structure was constructed as the maid's apartment, but the main house never was built and the family turned the structure into their home, with several additions in the 1920s Although the house has been altered, it retains its 1940s shape and the land has yielded several Indian artifcats.
