Dear Mr Bradford;
Thank you for your kindness in contacting Pir Ben Dick at 1015 Ne;
92 Street and Sears concerning the air conditioner problem I have talked
With you about on the telephone. As a result of what you did a start has
been made. Sears did put on a tin hood which directs the air into the
ground in front of the machine so that now we dont have that blast of
hot air blowing on us. Unfortunately, doing this did not diminish the
noise one bit.
I might explain that this is not an ordinary noise such as thgt
produced by a fan. It is more of a deep toned oscillating vibration
produced by the five ton industrial type of compressor i-1r Dick has
We have lived in the same house in Miami Shores for seventeen years and
during that time have become surrounded by other homes with air conditionef.
some of which are central. Not once during all that time has any of the
noise or vibration from these other homes bothered us. This compressor
seems to be of a different breed than all the others, or there is something
wrong with it. It is my intention to tape record some of the noise it
produces. Also, if I can find someone with a Decibel instrument I
want a reading of the noise level we are subjected to every time this
machine operates. We might suffer through the noises of this coffee
grinder by closing all our windows and turning on our own air conditioners
during the cooling season if it ended with the advent of cold weather.
However, I am sure Mr Dick's machine is a heat pump and will be operating
twelve months of the year. Next time you are in our neighborhood would
appreckate your coming into our home and back yard and give a listen.
If I am wrong about this I want to be the first one to admit it.
As to a solution - -the only possibilities I can think of are;
1. Mr Dick should make Sears give him another compressor -one intended
for residential and not industrial areas.
2. Build a structure over the compressor in such a way that at least
most of the noise and vibration is eliminated. Whis should be done under
the supervision of a sound engineer because I think it will be difficult.
3. Move the machine into Mr Dick's garage where I think it should have
been placed in the beginning. I am sure his cars wont mind the noise as
much as wee do .
I intend to pursue this matter to a satisfactory conclusion. I am
sure the Village of Miami Shores wants to continue to bey e wonderful
community it always has been in the past and there must be -or should be
some ordinances on the books that regulate this sort of thing.
Thank you for your kind attention to this matter. Please advise me
Sincerely,NO
