I supplied photocopies from the book "Patio Plans" published by Ortho Books and obtained from the Miami Shores Library. I was informed that my permit was denied unless I had an architect re -draw the plans and sign them. I have been in contact with Ortho Books/Meredith Publishing to discover the origins of the plans in their book. The original design was from a book entitled "How to Design and Build Patios" and the arbor was designed by Walter Eden, an architect in southern California. The original arbor was simplified and redrawn using a CAD program and published in the 'Patio Plans" book. The arbor is a very simple design, and detailed drawings show all the necessary dimensions, a list of all materials to purchase, and step -by -step instructions showing exactly how to construct it from start to finish. I fail to see what a local architect could add to the process that would make this arbor design any more complete. I have a letter from Meredith Publishing that confirms the origins of my plans and copies of both books. I would appreciate the consideration of my request by the Building Dept. at their Oct. 22 meeting. I understand the importance of having detailed plans before embarking on any building project and I am confident that all the necessary information required can be found in the book. In addition, my father, who has contracting and building experience, is going to assist and supervise the construction. Hiring an architect to simply copy the plans from the book would be an unnecessary expense and add nothing useful to the process. The construction of this arbor will add a decorative element to my backyard and provide a shady spot to sit. I plan to paint it with a wood sealer in a dark green color so it will blend nicely with the existing landscaping. The structure will not be visible from the street or the neighbors' backyards due to an existing fence and shrubbery, and I foresee no negative impact on the neighborhood if this arbor is built according to plan. The doorframe will be set in full bead of caulking. The joint between stucco and doorframe shall be raked while the stucco is still workable to create a groove for caulking after the stucco is thoroughly cured. Same for windows. 3. The caulking bead applied at the doorframe shall be neat and forrna a continuous unbroken bead around the entire perimeter of the frame. Same for windows. 4. All glass in doors will be single glazed. 5. Provide tempered glass where required by 2001 FBC 6. Doors shall comply with the 2001 FBC to provide resistance to illegal entrance and wind forces as required. All windows and outside doors and locks shall be approved by Dade 7. Patching: Contractor is to remove existing stucco andr'or piaster around areas to be patched, as required, to provide finish which is flush with existing surrounding surface. 2.
