The roof had been set with approximately 21 squares of roof tile. Tile Description The tiles were a mortar set, clay, barrel, roof tile manufactured by Artezanos, product control approval # 95- 0317.11. The roof was first examined for loose tile by hand lifting seventy five (75) field tiles and seventy (70) corner and perimeter tiles. Forty five (45) single tiles, were randomly selected and tested. twenty five (25) tests were conducted in the field area, ten (10) in the perimeter area, and ten (10) in the corner areas. The single tiles were subjected to a concentrated uplift force measured with a manually operated, Chatillon mechanical dial push /pull gauge, series DPPH. The gauge was connected to a steel "L" shaped angle that was inserted under the nose of the tile and gradually pulled upward until reaching the required test pressure of 35 lbs. +/- 5 lbs. As the load was applied, observations for failure of the component and the attachment, if any, were recorded. Tests were performed in respective order as illustrated on the attached sketch.
