FOR SERVICE DATE BY v November, 1 63, an ad in the Miami Herald prompted us to call the Fla. State Constrs. Serv. Inc., and inquire about Aluminum Siding. Their salesman, Mr. E. Rosenfeld, called on us. H e assured us, that if we put on the Alcoa Siding, the only maintenance necessary was to use the Garden Hose to wash down the house, and it would look as good as new. (The cost of the Siding and Finances Charges, came to $2,760.00 and carried a 20 year guarantee.) (The color of the Siding was to be Beige it was, however, at the present time, it's a very light streakedTan). This Siding was put on our home on Nov. 5, '63, June, of '68, I noticed the color seemed faded, (It was a nice Rose Beige, and. looked a pale tan,) when you rubbed your hands over the Siding it came off like chalk. 0. Boy, here's where I show my neighbors I'll wash my house, and it will look as good as new.. out came the garden hose, ."FORGET IT" It only streaded the house, and it was worse than .ever. I then called Fla. State Constrs. Serv. Inc., and Mr. Winestock came to see me about two weeks later. I explained to him what happened he passed his hand over it, and nonchalantly told me the Aluminum was oxidizing. He then asked for some Cream Wax, and two rags, and pro- ceeded to wax a small square. He turned to me and said, "Thats what has to be done to the house. It has to be waxed to restore it to it's original color. After I regained my composure, I informed him I had n6 intentions of waxing my house, after all, it wasn't to cost me anything except the the water I was to use to wash the house down, and besides it was sup- pose to be maintenance free. THIS WAS 1Y FIRST SHOCK. Not getting any satisfaction from Fla. State Constrs. Serv. Inc., at that particular moment, I.called the ALCOA ALUMINUM CO.,.. Two days later a representative came to inspect my dilemma. THEN CAME MY SECOND SHOCK. I was informed I did not have ALCOA ALUMINUM on my house, (My c tract that I signed called for GENIUNE ALCOA ALUMINUM SIDING IN BEIGE ) the only part that was ALOCA was the White Channelling. I was also informed by the ALCOA REPRESENTATIVE, that if I did have Alcoa on the house, and my dilemma was as such, they would surely take care of it so I wouldn't have any thing to worry about. ( The channel- ling hasn't oxidized - -- that's the 'only thing that is ALCOA. ( one) ( 2 ) No need to tell you how this news upset m9, after all I paid for ALCOA ALUMINUM, THE BEST, and got Crown the worst. In the week's that past, I called Crown Aluminum, Tampa, Penna, everyplace. I finally went to the President in Penna, but got the sand results NOTHING. I called the General Manager, and when I raised my voice to him, he was down right nasty to me, they pass the buck from one to the other. (We did consult a lawyer about this, and were told we had a very good case. However, we couldn't and stillccantt afford the fee.) However, Fal. State did have TW0 MEN come and wash down the house but it never came back to it's natural color.... THEY DIDN'T WAX IT. That was Two years ago. NOW TWO YEARS LATER, I'M UP AGAINST THE SAME PROBLEM: July of this year, I again called Mr. Winestork (Fla. State Con - str. Service, and was informed the only way to restore it's original color was to WAX THE HOUSE, but said he would call me in a day or so. He did call to say he was going on vacation, and the maintenance of the house belonged to me, and it was my problem. Believe me I'm not lazy, however, I would much rather PAINT the house, it would be much faster and a lot cheaper than WAXING. For the money we paid to have this siding put on, we could have HAD the house PAINTED every four years for the next 20 years, and came out BETTER.
