The top face is further treated to reduce the absorption of asphalt. GAFTEMP Fiberboard insulation is available in two densities, Regular Fiberboard and High Density Fiberboard. Advantages • Strong and rigid • Increases strength of entire roof. • Excellent dimensional stability. • Withstands normal deck traffic during and alter construction. Excellent bonding to BUR felts. • Good Insulating properties. • Resists damage due to rough handling in shipment. • Excellent recover board. Uses GAFTEMP Fiberboard roof insulation is designed to be used directly over structural roof decks. II is also widely used as a separation board over existing roofs in recover installations. In recover applications all wet areas of the old roof must be removed. All loose and protruding gravel must also be removed. Properly installed, GAFTEMP Fiberboard roof insulation is suitable for use under built -up, modified bitumen and most single ply roofing systems. However, Regular Density Fiberboard roof insulaiion is not designed for use under fully adhered single ply systems. Refer to the application specifications for proper instal- lation procedures. Limitations and Potential Fire Hazard GAFTEMP Fiberboard roof insulation is a non - structural, non- loadbearing material. GAFTEMP Fiberboard roof insulation should be stored dry and protected from the elements. No more insulation should be installed than can be completely cov- ered with roofing on the same day. As unprotected fiberboard will burn, fire safety precautions should be observed whenever fiberboard product is used. Direct torching of modified bitumen roofing to GAFTEMP Fiberboard roof insu- lation may present a fire hazard.A properly installed fiber glass base sheet must be used over the insulation. Flashing shall be stripped in with two collars of Base Sheet extending 4" and 6" beyond outside edge of flashing set in asphalt, and while hot, install clamp ring and tighten. B. Valleys. Reinforce valleys with an additional ply of base sheet 36" wide, extending 12" up inclines. Apply in direction of slope oI valley, lapping 4" on ends. Solid mop to base ply. C. Vent Pipe and Flashing Pan. Where projections extend through tlae root surface, install flashing with a 4" wide continuous flange. Set flange in flashing compound on base ply. (For 'Killable surfaces, Ilange must also be nailed 3" o.c. 3 /4" from perimeter.) Seal flange with a 6" wide strip of Glass Fabric, set in asphalt. Follow with a collar of base ply to lit around vents and overlap flanges 6" on all sides, applied in asphalt. After membrane is applied. form a cant of flashing compound around the base. Flashing Pan shall have a minimum 4" level height. Opening between projection and deck shall be closed to prevent drippage. Fill the inside of the collar with flashing compound. Cant the flashing compound around projection above the level of outside ring. (Flashing pans are not suitable liar hot pipe projections.) D. Roofing Membrane. Cut plies in lengths not to exceed 18' and allow to flat ten. Langer lengths may be used when rolled or machined and broonacd into place. Apply base by lapping 2" on sides. Attach base ply at side laps 9" o.c. and 18" o.c. staggered in two rows 12" from each edge with Approved Fasteners. Solid mop base ply with asphalt and embed three plies of tell, shingle method. lapping 24 2 /," on sides, mopping be- tween plies.
