SEP 0 7 1995 EXPIRES : SEP 0 7 19 9 8 This approves an aluminum fold down, Bahama type sun shade designed to comply with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements as determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in Section 3. 2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS 2.1. The louvers shall be rolled as indicated on approved drawing No. 95 -27, Sheet 1 of 2, using aluminum alloy 5010 -H14, .020" thick. 2.2 Louvers, the "S" shape slats shall have anominal width of 1.750" and a max. depth of .250 ", as detailed on Drawing No. 95 -27, Sheet 1 of 2. 2.3 Components shall be aluminum alloy 6063 -T6 frame, mullion, extruded male and female hinges; and ASTM A446 -89 Grade D, G -90 18 ga., galvanized steel stiffeners. 2.4 The single unit bahama shade is a top pivoting panel of Louvers, Stiffeners and Frame construction. It has a continuous male hinge along the top of the shutter and is bolted to the frame of the shutter. The hinge is connected to the top frame with #8 x 3/8" long SMS spaced @ 9" o.c. Other details shall be as indicated on drawing No. 95 -27, Sheets 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. The continuous male hinge (Part 5) across the top, engages the continuous Female Hinge (Part 6) which is anchored to the wall'using 1/4" dia. concrete anchors spaced at 16" o.c.; at the bottom the awning is supported at each side by a telescoping tube consisting of a 7/8" diam. x .055" wall alum. alloy 6063 -T5 pipe which fits inside a 1" diam. x .055" pipe of the same material, at the pipe overlap a 1/4" - 20 x 1 -1/2" thumb screw through one wall of each pipe is used to secure the two pipes extended in the open position; these extension pipes are attached to the awning at one end, using a 1/4" dia. - 20 machine bolt w /pop jack nut thru the pipe to the Side Frame (Part 3) and at the other end using a 1/4" dia. - 20 aluminum bolt and nut and washer thru the pipe to the Camel back hinge (Part 8), which in turn is anchored to the wall using two (2) anchors as indicated on Drawing 95 -27, Sheet 2 of 2. 2.5 Tested specimen: Dimensions: 3 - 21" span slats in width x 6' - 3" high. 3. LIMITATIONS 3.1 The design will be dependent on the maximum bahama shade width (horizontal) span of 21" between mullions; a maximum bahama shade (vertical) height projection of 75 ". The awning shutter shall be installed vertically and be operable manually through a continuous hinge located at the header; at the bottom, the shutter is held in the open position thru adjustable support arms, one per side, consisting of a set of aluminum pipes 7/8" O.D. x .055" wall inside of a 1" O.D. x .055" wall pipe, as indicated on drawing No. 95 -27, Sheets 1 thru 2 of 2, bearing the Dade County Product Control stamp. INSTALLATION 4.1 The bahama shade shall be installed only in the following condition: 4.1.1 Wall Mount (Direct Mount) The continuous male hinge (Part 5) across the top, engages the continuous Female Hinge (Part 6) which is anchored to the wall using concrete anchors spaced at 16" o.c.; at the bottom the awning is supported at each side by a telescoping tube adjustable support arms, consisting of a 7/8" diam. x .055" wall alum. alloy 6063 -T5 pipe which fits inside a 1" diam. x .055" pipe of the same material. At the pipe overlap a 1/4" - 20 x 1 -1/2" thumb screw is used to secure the two pipes extended in the open position; these adjustable support arms are attached to the awning at one end, using a 1/4" - 20 machine bolt w /pop jack nut thru the pipe to the Side Frame (Part 3) and at the other end using a 1/4" - 20 aluminum bolt and nut and washer thru the pipe to the Camel back hinges (Part 8), which in turn is anchored to the wall using two (2) anchors as indicated on Drawing No. 95 -27, Sheet 2 of 2. In the closod position the shutter is anchored to the wall thru a 1.5" x 1" x 1/8" alum. angle (Part 9) attached to the shutter using two (2) 1/4" - 20 machine bolts w /molly jack nut @ 1 -1/4" o.c. and anchored to the wall with one (1) 1/4" dia. anchor, as shown on Drawing No. 95 -27, "Typical Closure Detail ", Sheet 2 of 2, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.2 Anchorage of the female hinge member and aluminum channel shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood framing and shall consist of only the anchors,,embedment and spacing specified on Drawing No. 95 -27, Sheets 1 and 2 of 2. Substitution of anchor type or indicated embedment is unacceptable and requires to be engineered separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance. 4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not in use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time. Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original submitted documentation, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years. 2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name; city, state, and the following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of this Acceptance. 3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if: a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the product is not in compliance with the code changes; b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved; c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct installation of the product; d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted , is no longer practicing the engineering profession. 4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office. 5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance: a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process; b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes. 6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety. 7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all times. The copies need not be resealed by the engineer. 8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance. 9. This Acceptance contains pages 1, 2, 2(a) through 2(c) and this last page 3. items 10. 11 & 12 listed below only a ply to glazed products 10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance ( approvi), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section. 11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes of fasterners used in testing. 12. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision application with appropriate fee) and granted this office. 5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance: a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process; b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes. 6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety. 7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. For multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section. 11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing. 12. The 2" x 5" x 1/8" angles are then anchored to the wall as shown on Drawing No. 94 -98.1, Sheet 2 of 2, Section C "Build -Out Mount ", bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.1.3 Ceili g/InsideMoun( The panels are secured inside a top track ( "U" header) at the head, which is anchored to the inside of the opening; and fastened to the 2" x 2" x .250" continuous "EAB" studded aluminum angle at the sill, using 1/4 " -20 machine bolt and washered wingnut spaced at 6.5" o.c. as shown on Drawing No. 94 -98.1, Sheet 2 of 2, Section B "Ceiling/Inside Mount" bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp. 4.1.4 Any combination of the above. 4.2 Anchorage of the aluminum angles shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood framing and shall consist of only the anchors, embedment and spacing specified on Drawing No. 94 -98.1, Sheets 1 and 2 of 2. Substitution of anchor type or indicated embedment is unacceptable and requires to be engineered separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance. 4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not in use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time. 5. IDENTIFICATION 5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ". 6.2 Also a Warning Note shall be permanently stamped in each panel advising the home owner or tenant that the storm panels will not offer hurricane protection unless all reinforcing bolts are properly installed. 6. USE 6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following: 6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance. 6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing size and location, including height above grade, of openings to receive shutters; mean roof height, length and width of building. 6.1.3 Duplicate prints of approved drawings No. 94 -98.1, Sheets 1 and 2 of 2, bearing the approval stamp, Notice of Acceptance number and date by Dade County Product Control Section, clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed installation. 6.2 The Building Official shall ensure the adequacy of shutter to meet the pressure requirement of the opening in which it is to be installed. 6.3 This approval renews Notice of Acceptance No. 94 -1 1 15.03 dated March 30, 1995. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of this Acceptance. 3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if: a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the product is not in compliance with the code changes; b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved; c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct installation of the product; d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted, is no longer practicing the engineering profession. 4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office. 5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance: a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process; b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes. 6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety. 7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. The copies need not be resealed by the engineer. 8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance. 9. This Acceptance contains pages I, 2, 2(a) through 2(b) and this last page 3. Items 10 11 & 12 listed below only apply to glazed products and doors 10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section. I 1. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame. shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing. 12.
