Site Preparation:
1. The swimming pool will be in continuous operation and use throughout the repair
period.
2. There shall be no contact of any kind between the contractor nor his
representatives and employees with any University faculty or students throughout
this repair period. Any violation of this requirement shall constitute forfeiture of
the contract and any monies owed to the contractor at the time of occurrence.
3. Barry University will have removed all University property from the first floor of
the Pool Facility at the time the contract for repair is executed.
4. All partitioning, finishes, equipment and devices remaining at the time of
execution of the contract shall become the responsibility of the contractor to
remove and dispose of in a legal manner or protect as needed or required to
accomplish the intended results at completion of this work.
5. The pool mechanical, electrical and control equipment in the lower mechanical
room and at grade level shall remain in operation throughout this contract period.
University maintenance personnel shall have access to this equipment at all times
for purposes of maintaining health, safety and operation of the pool. The
contractor shall cooperate in all matters pertaining to this requirement.
6. Provide a scaffold structure in the pool mechanical room in such a manner to
prevent any demolition or removal of building materials form dropping onto the
equipment and floor of the pool equipment room below. This scaffold structure
shall provide for maintenance work required in paragraph 5.
Removals:
7. The scope of work includes the removal of all deteriorated concrete associated
with the first floor of the Pool Mechanical Room as identified on the First Floor

as part of the contractors responsibility.
8. The scope also includes the removal of specific timber flooring that makes up
portions of the first floor of the facility.

11. Remove existing angle support frame. Remove existing Cast Iron pipe to first
hub below floor of mechanical room. Plug CI pipe at hub. Replace existing
guard rail around floor pit with new galv. metal pipe rail meeting the following
requirements: Height 42 ", Open guards shall have balusters such that a 4 -inch-
diameter sphere cannot pass through any opening up to a height of 34 inches.
From 34 inches to 42 inches above the walking surfaces, a sphere 8 inches in
diameter shall not pass. Guard rail shall be designed to resist a load of 50 plf
applied in any direction at the top and to transfer this load through the supports to
the structure. Guard rails shall be able to resist a single concentrated load of 200
pounds, applied in any direction at any point along the top, and have attachment
devices and supporting structure to transfer this loading to appropriate structural
elements of the building. This load need not be assumed to act concurrently with
the loads specified above. Intermediate rails, balusters and panel fillers shall be
designed to withstand a horizontally applied normal load of 50 pounds on an area
equal to 1 square foot, including openings and space between rails. Reactions due
to this loading are not required to be superimposed with those above
