of this Notice of Acceptance)
has been recommended for acceptance by the Building Code Compliance office to be used in Dade
County, Florida under the specific conditions set forth on pages 2 et. seq. and the Standard Conditions
on page 3.
This approval shall not be valid after the expiration date stated below. The Office of Code Compliance
reserves the right to secure this product or material at anytime from a jobsite or manufacturer's plant for
quality control testing. If this product or material fails to perform in the approved manner, the Code
Compliance Office may revoke, modify, or suspend the use of such product or material immediately. The
applicant shall re- evaluate this product or material should any ammendments to the South Florida Building
Code be enacted affecting this product or material. The Building Code Compliance Office reserves the
the right to revoke this approval, if it is determined by the Building Code Compliance Office that this
product or material fails to meet the requirements of the South Florida Building Code. The expense of
such testing will be incurred by the manufacturer.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
This approves a 20 ga. galvanized steel storm panel designed to comply with the South Florida
Building Code. 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements as
determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not
exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in
Section 3.
2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1. The storm panels shall be constructed as indicated on approved drawing No. 95015, Sheet 1 of 6
using galvanized 20 gage steel, with Fy = 33 ksi min., conforming to ASTM A 446 -91 Structural
Quality, minimum grade A, with a G 90 minimum coating.
2.2 Panels have a nominal width of 12.50" and a total width of 14.0 ", forming 1 5/8" deep ribs
2.3 Components shall be aluminum alloys 6063 -T6, extrusions and 1 -1 /2 "x 1 -1/2 "x 1/8 ", 2 "x 2 "x 1/8 ",
3 "x 3 "x x 1/8 ", 5 "x2 "x 1/8" angles, 1- 1/2" x 1/8" flat bar, 2- 3/4 "x 2 "x.062" 'h' header, 2 "x2
3/8 "x.074" 'u' header, 3/8 "x 1- 21/32 "x .093" 'F' track and also .050" and .060" thick parts of
numerous shapes and sizes used as return pans for built -out conditions.
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 The design will be dependent on the maximum panel height of 126" or 10' -6" to be installed only
as outlined on drawing No. 95015 Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6.
3.2 Minimum separation to existing glass to protect shall be 2- 1/2" for spans up to 102"
2- 3/4" for spans up to 126"

3.4 Special Requirement:
Reinforcing straps, consisting of one 1- 1/2" wide by 1/8" thick flat bar of aluminum alloy
6063 -T6 must be used as shown on Sheet 4 of 6 and fastened with a 1/4" -20 stud bolts w /wing
nut & washer and spaced at max. distance of 12 -1/2" on center. The required straps per span
condition shall be as follows:
3.4.1 Panel Spans up to 68" - No reinforcement straps required.
3.4.2 Panel Spans 68" to 102" - One reinforcing strap at midspan

4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The panels shall be installed only in the following condition:
4.1.1 Direct Wall Mount
The panels are secured at the header and sill with 1/4 " -20 x 1/2" side walk bolts into with 1/4 " -20
x 7/8" ELCO Hanger Mate anchors countersunk and flush with surface, with a maximum spacing
of 12 1/2" o.c. as shown on Detail 'C' , Sheet 3 of 6; or the panels are secured to a header and sill
aluminum (1 /8 "x 1- 1/2 ") studded strap with 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" studs spaced 12- 1/2" o.c. the straps
are anchored to the wall with 1/4 " -20 x 7/8" ELCO Hanger Mate anchors countersunk and flush
with surface, with a maximum spacing as per "Anchor Schedule ", Sheet 5 of 6, for wood framing
or 1/4" diameter masonry screws, with maximum spacing as per "Anchor Schedule ", Sheet 5 of 6,
for concrete or masonry. The panels are reinforced with aluminum straps or horizontal stitching,
described in Section 3 of this Acceptance Notice, (See detail 'A', 'B' and Elevation, Sheet 4 of 6).
4.1.2 Wall Mount - (w/ 'h' - Header & Sill Track or Angle)
The panels are engaged into an aluminum 'h'- header as shown on Details 2, 3, 5, 6 or 8 , Sheet 2
of 6, and are then attached to a sill angle or track as shown on Details 5, 6 or 8 , Sheet 2 of 6, the
header and sill angle or track are then anchored to the wall with the approved fasteners spaced at a
maximum o.c. spacing as per "Anchor Schedule ", Sheet 5 of 6. The panels are reinforced with
aluminum straps or horizontal stitching, described in Section 3 of this Acceptance Notice, (See
detail 'A', 'B' and Elevation, Sheet 4 of 6).
4.13 Build Out Mount
The panels are engaged into an aluminum 'u'- header as shown on Details 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16,
Sheet 2 of 6, and are then attached at the sill as shown on Details 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16, Sheet 2 of
6, the header and sill are then anchored to the wall with the approved fasteners spaced at a
maximum o.c. spacing as per "Anchor Schedule ", Sheet 5 of 6. The panels are reinforced with
aluminum straps or horizontal stitching, described in Section 3 of this Acceptance Notice, (See
detail 'A', 'B' and Elevation, Sheet 4 of 6).
4.1.4 Ceiling/Inside Mount
The panels are engaged into an aluminum 'u'- header as shown on Details 1 or 4, Sheet 2 of 6, and
are then attached to a sill angle as shown on Details 7, 10, or 11, Sheet 2 of 6, the header and sill
angle are then anchored to the wall with the approved fasteners spaced at a maximum o.c. spacing
as per "Anchor Schedule ", Sheet 5 of 6. The panels are reinforced with aluminum straps or
horizontal stitching, described in Section 3 of this Acceptance Notice, (See detail 'A', 'B' and
Elevation, Sheet 4 of 6).
4.1.5 Any combination of the above.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
4.2 Anchorage of the shutters shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood framing and shall consist of
only the anchors specified on drawing No. 95015, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6. Substitution of anchor type
or indicated embedment is unacceptable and are to be engineered separately.
4.3 Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be made of stainless steel or have
adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals not
considered compatible shall be properly protected.
4.4 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not in
use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time.
5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
5.2 Also a Warning Note shall be permanently stamped in each panel advising the home owner or
tenant that the storm panels will not offer hurricane protection unless all reinforcing bolts and/or
straps are properly installed.
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance.
6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing size and location, including height above
grade, of openings to receive shutters; mean roof height, length and width of building.
6.1.3 Duplicate prints of approved drawings No.95015, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6, bearing the
approval stamp, Notice of Acceptance number and date by Dade County Product Control
Section, clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed installation.
6.2 The Building Official shall ensure the adequacy of shutter to meet the pressure requirement of the
opening in which it is to be installed

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: STANDARD CONDITIONS
1. Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original
submitted documents, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years.
2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of
this Acceptance.
3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if:
a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the product
is not in compliance with the code changes;
b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved;
c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct
installation of the product;
d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted, is no

4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause
for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision
application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process;
b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes.
6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date
may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be
done in its entirety.
7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to
the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. The
copies need not be resealed by the engineer.
8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance.
9. This Acceptance contains pages 1, 2, 2(a) through 2(c) and this last page 3.

10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame,
shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6"
from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one
tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this
approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing.
12. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced En
Florida Building Code.
