These forms are accompanied by reduced plan copies that may serve as a visual aid for staff and members of the board, in understanding the scope of work for this project, which we have outlines below. As Barry University's athletic program has grown over the years, the asphalt track constructed 10 years ago has never been utilized and likely never will. Thus the decision was made to remove the asphalt track and recover the needed green area for practice areas for soccer and intramural sports programming. With only one main field for soccer it has endured the cumulative impact of both daily practices as well as NCAA schedule of games. This intensive activity has worn the field down to the point it is time for a major renovation of that turf area. The new program design includes the following: A. Moving the north fence line of the athletic area further north to expand on the total green area of the athletic field site. B. Removal of the asphalt track to be recovered as grass playing field. C. Moving the primary NCAA playing field to the north, further from the residential areas. Score board and bleachers will moved north as well. D. Expanding of the total Bermuda Grass turf area from the limited area inside the track oval, to embrace the total active use area of the complex. E Section of a rectilinear area to the south for a practice field, so the day to day activities can rotate to alternate areas to distribute wear and allow grassed areas to recover between active use periods. F. Renovation of the underground irrigation system to cover all grass areas. The field renovation is scheduled to begin in February, with the stripping of the existing grass and weed cover of the site. The removal of the asphalt track will follow, and then the total site will be regraded to properly crown field for proper drainage. The irrigation system installation will likely start in the first of March. By approximately mid -March to early April the fine grading and the final grass sprigging with the hybrid turf Bermuda 419 Grass is applied. The grow in program is a 90 day period, the same as for typical golf course construction. This schedule is essential to deliver fields in playable condition in time for the beginning of the NCAA Soccer practice season this summer. The net impact of this project will be to have moved the primary playing field north, further from area residents. The asphalt track removal replaced by turf area will have reduced the imperious area and improved the overall drainage of the site. The broad turf renovation and irrigation system expansion will have removed the rough weedy appearance of open space areas and created a much higher esthetic appearance for the campus, as well as to help streamline their maintenance of this same area. And the expanded area will allow teams to utilize more of the complex to distribute wear and tear on fields. We believe this to be a program that is responsive to the program and considerate of the surrounding community. All relocated trees shall be braced in a manner that does not scar the bark, penetrate the bark, or otherwise inflict damage. 3. Any tree that dies or in the opinion of DERM becomes nonviable within one (1) year shall be replaced according to the standards set forth in the Tree Protection Ordinance (24- 60.4).
