2025-02-20 EAB MEETING MINUTES-EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD- MEETING MINUTES 10050 NE 2ND AVENUE Thursday, February 20, 2025 6:00 PM 1. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kate Mason called the meeting to order at 6:03 PM. 2. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Kate Mason Mallory Lehroff Michael Weber Marisol Campillo Dana Vignale ABSENT: Renee O’Connor ALSO PRESENT: Ysabely Rodriguez, Village Clerk Doug Clark (District Representation) joined via Zoom Mr. Daniel Diaz 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no public comments. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES A. JANUARY 17, 2025 EAB MEETING MINUTES Ms. Lehrhoff moved to approve the minutes and Mr. Weber seconded the motion, which carried a 4-0 voice vote. B. CONSIDERATIONS: A. MSES UPDATE PROVIDED BY ADMINISTRATION Mr. Diaz provided a brief update on the operations and progress of the school and answered questions posed by the boardmembers. As a separate matter, the board briefly discussed the annual report that was presented to the Council by Ms. Mason and Ms. Vignale. B. UPDATE REGARDING THE REALTOR PRESENTATION (MSES). The board briefly discussed the logistics of the presentation, which evolved into the idea of incorporating a school tour for interested parties, including prospective students, parents, realtors, and others. The tour/presentation was scheduled for the morning of April 15. Details pertaining to the tour would be finalized during the March board meeting. C. DISCUSSION REGARDING THE FIVE STRATEGIC AREAS OUTLINED IN THE EDUCATION COMPACT. i. Student Achievement ii. Community Involvement iii. Parental Engagement iv. Communication v. Facilities Joint-Use Agreement C. NEW BUSINESS Ms. Lehroff raised the topic of Nexplore afterschool programming, providing an overview of the program. Ms. Lehrhoff asked Village Clerk Rodriguez to place an item on the next agenda for board consideration and discussion. Separately, the Board discussed the possibility of including references to Miami Shores Elementary School on the Village website. Clerk Rodriguez noted that she is open to adding the information to the Boards and Committees subpage. However, she clarified that placing references on the main homepage would require approval from the Village Manager. D. UPDATES The Board requested an update from Village Clerk Rodriguez regarding the attendance of Boardmember Michelle Stone, who was appointed in October 2024. Clerk Rodriguez reported that Ms. Stone has not made any contact with the Village, despite multiple attempts by the Clerk’s Office to reach her via email and phone. The Board discussed the challenges in maintaining quorum due to her absence and considered declaring the seat vacant. Following discussion, there was a consensus to declare the seat vacant and to direct the Village Clerk to notify Ms. Stone accordingly. The Board also expressed that, should Ms. Stone wish to reapply, her participation would be welcomed. Ms. Rodriguez explained that the Council would be informed of the vacancy, and the next step would be for the communications firm to promote the vacancy across all Village social media platforms. E. ADJOURNMENT The board adjourned the meeting at 7:25 PM. Miami Shores Village complies with the provisions of the Americans with Disability Act.
