The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m.
Ms. Rodriguez is working on creating a Google doc for members to brainstorm the responsibilities of the
Commission Chair and Vice Chair. Responsibilities include attending meetings, liaisoning with other
Committees and the Village Council, attending Miami Shores Community Alliance (MSCA) meetings,
applying for MSCA grants, maintaining Sunshine Laws and preserving grant and donation accounts.
Ms. Rodriguez noted that the Commission’s meeting with the consultants for the Parks Master Plan went
very well. Ms. Rodriguez said that the consultants understood the potential for the 9900 building and were
receptive to the Commission’s multicultural ideas. It was noted that opposition to the first bond centered on
how it was presented to the residents. Ms. Villagran said that there is a Parks Master Plan website that will
include updates as they occur.
It was noted that Mayor Burch has asked the Commission for a letter of interest for the 9900 building. Ms.
Rodriguez made a motion to form a subcommittee comprised of Ms. Rodriguez, Mr. Hosfeld and Mr.
Bruce to work on a letter of interest for the 9900 building. Motion seconded by Mr. Bruce and
unanimously approved.
Commission members would like to visit the Miami Shores Presbyterian Chapel to see if this location could
work for an exhibit. Ms. Rodriguez will confirm a date and time for the visit.
Mr. Hosfeld would like to plan an event at Barry in the Fall. A few negatives to a Barry event is that the site
location is not clearly marked and Barry is not located in the Village proper. Mr. Hosfeld will contact the
selected artists and advise that them that the exhibit has been postponed indefinitely.
Ms. Rodriguez made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 15, 2024 meeting. Motion
seconded by Mr. Hosfeld and unanimously approved.
Mr. Bruce noted that the Commission is capable of putting on events in addition to the concert series.
Discussion turned to the spring concert series. The tentative concert dates that have been selected are
January 24 (Country Music Theme), February 21 (Theme TBD) and March 14 (Full Moon Concert with an
Irish Folklore Theme). It was suggested that the March concert be kid-oriented, including a camp fire sing-
a-long and Girl Scout cookie sales. It was noted that Commission members divide the responsibilities for
the concerts.
Discussion turned to the Streetscape signs. It was noted that an additional sign was vandalized on the east
side of Biscayne Boulevard. Commission members asked to add the Streetscape signs to the December
agenda.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55pm
