Meeting called to order at 5:31 pm
November 6t" Meeting Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
A. Pozzi —
• Village administration scheduled a meeting with South Florida Water Management to discuss
the upcoming plans to widen the C-8 canal and install three 500 CFS forward pumps, a building
42' tall, plus support infrastructure in the area surrounding the site of the 5-28 structure. About
25 people including the Village Mayor, Council, Village Manager and Village attorney were
present at the meeting
• This plan would render 4 of the 18 holes unplayable
J. LaPonzina —
• If South Florida Water Management proceeds with this plan, we will not be able to have a
championship golf course
• It was a bleak meeting
• Credit to the mayor, he asked great questions, but South Florida Water Management did not
have the answers
• The plan is not acceptable, it will destroy the golf course
• If this project proceeds, we will not be a regulation golf course, we will not draw golf
tournaments
• The golf course architect will verify comments in an email
• We need the support of residents and community
• Need to discuss the future of the golf course, this renovation will help the property value
• An executive course will not generate the same revenue stream as a championship course will
• Mayor Burch has been fabulous
• To the advisory board - thank you for all you have done trying to_get _this done_ before council
changes
Handed out proposed plan from South Florida Water Management
CArnvei
A. Pozzi —
• This plan is not compatible with an 18-hole regulation golf course
• South Florida Water Management indicated that this is not the final plan and they are working
on revisions
• The Mayor said if South Florida Water Management proceeds with this project, it will bankrupt
the Village
• The final plans from S.F.W.M.D. should be finalized in April
• South Florida Water Management rejected the location at Dixie Highway on 6th avenue
• This most likely will become a legal issue
S. Maroon —What happens now?
A. Pozzi — Miami Shores Village and South Florida Water Management both claim to have eminent
domain
J. LaPonzina —
• Because it is a historic golf course you cannot change the original design of the course
• The clubhouse is also designated historic
• This is one of the big legal points the Village has
A. Pozzi —
• Mr. Septembre brought documents from the State of Florida that designate the golf course and
clubhouse as historic
• February 2026 S.F.W.M.D. must break ground for this project, if it is delayed the funding will be
taken away
• FEMA must approve the plans before S.F.W.M.D. can proceed
B. Griffith — We need to start informing residents of these plans as soon as possible so they can support
The plans for the renovation
T. Septembre — Why are they doing this?
A. Pozzi —The canal system and saltwater intrusion structure were designed to work by gravity flow
allowing to drain upstream areas during periods of heavy rain and to stop saltwater
intrusion into the freshwater canals. As sea levels have risen over time, the gravity flow is not
sufficient during high tides to allow the canal water to flow downstream. Additionally, the
elevation of the structure is no longer sufficient as saltwater tops it during king tides and high
tide events. S.F.W.M.D. expects current conditions to significantly worsen over time.
T. Septembre — Believes that there has been no change in the water level since 2017
J. LaPonzina — We should wait for report from architect, and we will have to engage residents of
Miami Shores
A. Pozzi — There will be a joint workshop with the Village Council scheduled for Dec. 10 to get feedback
from Advisory Board and Miami Shores Residents
