The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m.
Ms. Rodriguez made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 8, 2023 meeting. Motion
seconded by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved.
At this time presentations were made from the semifinalists for the mural wall project. The first semifinalist
Samara Ash presented her vision of the front and back of the mural wall which has art deco influences. Ms.
Ash’s work is a combination of spray paint and paint brush. Semifinalist Erni Vales is a muralist with a
graffiti background; the submission was rendered to look like a metal butterfly. The third semifinalist was
Alain Castoriano. Ms. Rodriguez noted that Mr. Castoriano’s submission would be the safest option; the
other two will cause conversations. At this time the Commission discussed the three semifinalists and
unanimously decided to select Samara Ash for the mural wall project. A suggestion was made to keep the
mural wall covered once completed for a reveal during gallery night. A subcommittee for the mural wall was
created comprised of Ms. Hersh, Mr. Hosfeld and Mr. Bruce.
It was noted that there have been two submissions received from the call to artists for the November library
exhibit. It was noted that the deadline for submissions is October 1st. Ms. Ackley suggested a stipend to the
artist for library exhibits.
Discussion turned to the subcommittee report on the Streetscapes art in public places project. This project
will encourage people to tour the Village to discover the Streetscape signs. Hyper Construction has been
asked to prepare the areas selected for the signs. A suggestion was made to add a seventh sign to the
project. It was noted that a quote is needed from Hyper Construction for the first six locations prior to
approving an additional seventh one.
It was noted that the Los Pascual concert is scheduled for October 20th.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
