2024-03-04 RAC Minutes Minutes of the Recreation Advisory Committee held on March 4, 2024. Members present: Jennifer Baumann Sandra Carro John Ise Gayle Mercado Sheryl Piper Jessica Pluhar Members absent: Dino LaCapra Silvia Clarke Sharon Thompson Also present: Jacquelyn Villagran, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Ise made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 5, 2024 meeting. Motion seconded by Ms. Mercado and unanimously approved. Discussion turned to the Parks Master Plan. The RFP is on the Village website. Ms. Villagran related that the RFP timeline is as follows; the RFP went out on February 21 st; bids are due by 2:30pm on March 25th. All the bids will be reviewed by a committee panel with the goal of selecting a firm by the end of April. It was noted that the Miami Shores Country Club will be incorporated into the Parks Master Plan due to their open spaces. Discussion turned to a review of March and April events. Upcoming events include a pickleball tournament for beginners, community CPR certification class, Egg Dive and Marshmallow Drop. April events include a Father/Daughter Dance and a lifeguard certification course. Wild Waters will open weekends beginning the last weekend in March. Ms. Villagran related that we are actively working on rehabbing the athletic fields. It was noted the fields are heavily used with multiple programs year round. The fields are currently being treated as well as being aerated. Committee members said that field options should be included in the Parks Master Plan. Committee members also related that Recreation is not included in the list of five priorities of Council. The five priorities of Council are zoning code update, septic to sewer, Miami Shores Country Club/Golf Course clubhouse, storm water master plan and strategic master plan matrix. A suggestion was made for members to submit Ecomments for the next Council meeting concerning Recreation. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
