HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MEETING MINUTES
DATE: 11-16-2022 TIME: 6:30 PM COUNCIL CHAMBERS
1) CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Bonaduce called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

3) ACTION ITEM(S)
&A HPB Chair and vice -chair election
Mr. Bachay nominated Ms. Bonaduce for Chairperson, seconded by Ms. Headley and the
Motion was approved 4-0.
Ms. Bonaduce nominated Mr. Bachay for Vice Chair, seconded by Ms. Bonaduce and the
Motion was approved 4-0.
3.B Brockway Memorial Library/ Library Board pre -nomination discussion
The Library Director Michelle was present along with the Library Board Members.
The Board asked questions about the Library history and the renovations being made at this
time.
The Board expressed their appreciation of the work done at the library.
The Board explained why the Historic nomination of a structure is so important. Mostly to
protect the structure from future demolition.
Public comment - Unidentified - Said that Michelle, the library Director has done a great job.
The Board asked to the library Board if they would like to be nominated.
The next Board meeting is the second Wednesday of the month of January.
IC 61 NE 96 St - Certificate of Appropriateness
Mr. Wesley Castellanos the Architect presented the item for the Board's review.
The item is a garage conversion. The style is Mediterranean -Deco.
The survey will be submitted by Friday.
The Board asked questions.
Mr. Michot spoke about the windows replacement 5-6 years ago.
Ms. Bonaduce appreciated the Michot home. The Board asked questions to Mr. Castellanos.
The item to be considered is an addition, deck and trellis.
Motion to approve the Addition, Deck and Trellis by Mr. Bachay, seconded by Ms. Bonaduce
and the Motion was approved 4-0.

Motion to approve the 2023 Historic Board Meeting Calendar by Mr. Saadeh, seconded by Ms.
Headley as amended and the Motion was approved 4-0

3.E Approval of the Minutes for September 21, 2022
Motion to approve the minutes for September 21, 2022 by Ms. Headley, seconded by Mr. Bachay
and the Motion was approved 4-0.

4) DISCUSSION ITEM(S)
The owner of 1115 NE 97 Street, Jennifer Railing was present and would like to have her house
designated as a Historic Home. The house was built in 1949.
The application was submitted to the Historic Preservation Board. Staff commented that this was the
first designation. Staff asked the Board to make recommendation. Ms. Bonaduce spoke about
the letter of recommendation. Staff asked the Board to send their statements.
Motion to designate 1115 NE 97 as a Historic Home by Ms. Headley, seconded by Ms. Bonaduce
and the Motion was approved 4-0
This recommendation will now go to Council for approval.
Motion by Ms. Bonaduce proposed to appoint Mr. Castellanos as advisor to the Board,
seconded by Ms. Headley and the Motion was approved 4-0.
Mr. Castellanos expressed he is very happy to serve as an advisor to the Board. It will be an Honor
to serve in this capacity.
Ms. Bonaduce expressed appreciation for Mr. Castellanos willingness to continue to serve.
There was discussion about the Historic Plaque by the Board and Staff. The Board asked about
funding to Staff.
Ms. Bonaduce proposed for the Historic House of the month to continue. Proposing five a
month. 12 houses a year is not enough.
The Board expressed their thoughts about bringing back the House of the Month for Historic
Properties.
There was discussion about nominating new designations.
Motion to re activate Historic House of the Month by Ms. Bonaduce, seconded by Mr. Saadeh
and the Motion was approved 4-0.
5) ADJOURNMENT
The next meeting will be January 25, 2023
