March Meeting Minutes were approved
A. Pozzi –
• The golf business continues to be strong
• Friday, Saturday and Sundays are sold out
• Cart path work will begin next week
• Food and beverage business is steadily increasing, starting to book small parties
• The biggest challenge we are experiencing is staff recruitment
New Business:
A. Pozzi For Howie Orlin –
• Tennis business is also very strong
• A lot of new members have joined because of the pickleball courts
• Court availability is becoming a issue at peak times
• We are doing our best to accommodate members, junior programs and instruction
S. Maroon – How many golf members do we have?
A. Pozzi –
• We currently have about 245 members, less than last year; however, the member mix has
changed
• Most of the members that signed up this year are weekend players; where the majority of the
non-renewals were weekday players
M. Gallo – Will the executive golf membership go away?
A. Pozzi – We will not do away with it but will have to examine how we can address and deal with
current demand on weekend mornings which exceeds capacity
S. Maroon –
• Last Saturday, outside staff was short, it took 30 minutes to get my bag
• As a member there is a certain level of expectation and sometimes service is not there
• Not getting golf emails about the club tournament winners
A. Pozzi – Will address these issues with the golf operations team
M. Gallo –
• Scott is bringing important issues to the table
• The restaurant sends emails constantly but the Pro Shop does not
A. Pozzi – Your input and feedback is extremely important to us
T. Septembre – Awning over the deck, code enforcement and the building department will be happy to
issue the permit, they will need specs and drawings
A. Pozzi – We will start getting quotes so we can see how to fit it into the capital budget
N. Powell – The color on the TV’s in the lounge is off
A. Pozzi – Will have them fixed or replaced if needed
P. Rajo – Maybe for the membership we should do tiers with the ages or a complimentary warm up
bucket for full golfers
A. Pozzi – We will have to weigh options currently we have the cheapest membership dues rate in all of
South Florida
B. Griffith – Maybe have a weekday membership
A. Pozzi – Several years ago we tried a weekday membership with mixed results
I. Fajardo – How do the other clubs deal with these issues
A. Pozzi – Most municipal golf courses in Dade County do not offer memberships. Those that do charge
significantly higher rates
P. Rajo – someone should audit the handicap scores that are being put into the system
A. Pozzi –
• It is difficult for staff to challenge the scores members enter into the system. Additionally, many
members do not use the Clubs GHIN handicap system
• We would suggest a handicap or tournament committee is formed to address these issues
C. Baetzel – Our next Club member tournament is scheduled for November
M. Gallo – Members would have to make a commitment to participate
M. Wilcoxen –
• The ladies association has gotten very small, next year will build it back up
• Playing 2 groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays
• The pro-shop gives me a reading of the scores monthly
I. Fajardo –
• There will never be a perfect solution with the posting of the scores
• The advisory board is a way to get problems or complaints resolved or improved
N. Powell made a motion to form a handicap committee, P. Rajo seconded the motion
B. Griffith –
• Should consider having a junior golf tournament because of all the junior members we have
• When restrictions are fully lifted, we should invite the three new council members over to the
Club for a reception to introduce them to members and staff
C. Baetzel – We will schedule a Junior Tournament. It will have to include non-members to ensure we
have enough participating in each age group
A. Pozzi – Good idea when restrictions are lifted to have the new council at the Club
N. Powell was voted as the chair of the Advisory Board
C. Baetzel – Presented samples of the tournament plaques to be ordered
R. Strickland – Next meeting is scheduled for May 26, 2021
Meeting ended at 7:20 pm
