2023-06-14 LB Minutes Board of Trustees Michelle Brown, Library Director Kathy Redmond, President Cheryl Gowing, Vice President Laura Farley, Secretary Nancy Frehling Christine Gay Meeting of the Library Board of Trustees, Wednesday, June 14, 2023 Brockway Memorial Library Conference Room 10021 NE Second Avenue Miami Shores, Florida 33138 Minutes The meeting called to order at 9:31 a.m. Present were Michelle Brown, Library Director, Kathleen Redmond, President, Cheryl Gowing, Vice President, Laura Farley, Secretary, Christine Gay, and Nancy Frehling Public Comment: Alice Burch thanked board for their service to the library Presentation: Alice Burch said that she is amazed and excited about all of the ongoing programing. She also mentioned how well library and staff worked and maintained everything throughout the pandemic. Guests: Alice Burch 1. Approval of minutes of the May 10, 2023 meeting: motion to approve as amended by Ms. Redmond, seconded by Ms. Gay, motion passed. 2. Community Alliance Report: Ms. Gay reported that Brockway Memorial Library was awarded a grant for a Children’s Program. Regarding grants, it is important to address diversity of programming as well as how many people are impacted. 3. Financial Report: Ms. Brown reviewed the financial report through May 31, 2023 and reported budget is where it should be for this time of year. Community Alliance Grant: $2500 Grant for Summer Reading Program Eventbrite Tour of Shoreland Homes: $1,125 Grand Opening expenditures: Community Open House totals: $2,114.55 Memorial Day donations: $2,150 (20 participants) Ms. Frehling moved to accept financial report, Ms. Gay seconded, motion passed. 4. Circulation Report: For the month of April: the Library circulated 3,003 items, and 53 holds placed. 2 There were 41 digital magazine and 122 e-book/e-audio check-outs on Overdrive, 21 sessions on Mango Languages, 0 searches on Ancestry. Brain Pop Jr.-71 sessions. BrainFuse HelpNow, VetNow, JobNow-0 Homework Help The Library added 57 adult items, 88 youth items, and 18 media items and acquired 0 donations. 11 miscellaneous books were weeded, Staff repaired, changed and replaced 13 items. The Library added 29 patrons – 14 adult residents, 8 child residents, 5 adult non-resident and 2 child non- residents. The total patron count is currently 7,224. Total in person visits 2,815 for May; 2670 visits for April. 5. Old Business: Additional Ramp Update: Back at Village, passed DERM and Miami Dade County. Continue to review finances with Stobs Construction. 6. Other Items: Front Door Refinish: need sanded and re-stained, perhaps darker color. John Bachay Archivist, Marie Mennes new volunteer, may move Lars to tech, Anna leaving 7. Announcements June 17 – Juneteenth Celebration with MSE 10:30am-12:30pm June 20- Library Board to present Annual Report/Request for Historic Designation to Village Council 6:30pm June 22. 29, July 6, 13, 20,, 27 - Painting with Pastels June 23, 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28 - Drawing The next scheduled Board meeting: September 13, 2023 at 8:30am 8.
