2023-05-10 LB Minutes Board of Trustees Michelle Brown, Library Director Kathy Redmond, President Cheryl Gowing, Vice President Laura Farley, Secretary Nancy Frehling Christine Gay Meeting of the Library Board of Trustees, Wednesday, May 10, 2023 Brockway Memorial Library Conference Room 10021 NE Second Avenue Miami Shores, Florida 33138 Minutes The meeting called to order at 8:41 a.m. Present were Michelle Brown, Library Director, Kathleen Redmond, President, Cheryl Gowing, Vice President, Laura Farley, Secretary, Christine Gay, and Nancy Frehling, excused Public Comment: None Presentation: None Guests: None 1. Approval of minutes of the March 29, 2023 Special Meeting: motion to approve by Ms. Gowing, seconded by Ms. Gay, motion passed. Minutes of April 3, 2023 meeting, motion to approve by Ms. Gowing, seconded by Ms. Gay, motion passed. 2. Community Alliance Report: Ms. Redmond reported that Doctors Charter School Debate Team won the State Championships. Green Day was successful, between 8,000 -9,000 people attended. Also $45,000 allocated for grants; so far only 15 applications have been submitted. 3. Financial Report: Ms. Brown reviewed the financial report through April 30, 2023 and reported budget is on point for this period. Ms. Redmond moved to accept financial report, Ms. Farley seconded, motion passed. Ancestry.com – too late to cancel and will place a sign stating that it will only be available through April 1, 2024 Grand Opening expenditures to date: Food and Servers: $2405.60, Photographer: $100.00, Flautist $200.00, Invitations $112.00 Total: $2,837.60, Tips $200.00 (reimburse Ms. Gay) 4. Circulation Report: For the month of April: the Library circulated 2,813 items, and 65 holds placed. 2 There were 36 digital magazine and 195 e-book/e-audio check-outs on Overdrive, 9 sessions on Mango Languages and 193 searches on Ancestry. Brain Pop Jr.-83 sessions. BrainFuse HelpNow, VetNow, JobNow-0 Homework Help The Library added 57 adult items, 34 youth items, and 11 media items and acquired 26 donations. 7 miscellaneous books were weeded, Staff repaired, changed and replaced 77 items. The Library added 34 patrons – 15 adult residents, 5 child residents, 7 adult non-resident and 7 child non- residents. The total patron count is currently 7,189. Total in person visits 2,665 for March; 2670 visits for April 5. Old Business: Yoga Proposal – Mariana Scotti was offered June and July for book and meditation (limited series) on Saturday mornings Addition/Ramp update: gave 30 working days; Village of Miami Shores handling with DERM Lighting: in and is scheduled to be installed by Longman Electric next week Other Items: May 20th hours of operation – Library to remain open. A brain storming session took place regarding planning for Juneteenth and other events, fundraising: to increase BML Trust, idea of having a thermometer with listed projects and amounts needed, a virtual donor board, having an adult fundraising event at BML, and children’s (ages 5-12) event such as evening at the movies, putt –putt, Harry Potter event . Forming a committee for BML 75th Anniversary Gala using Village Community Calendar to coordinate events 6. Announcements: a. May 13 at 10:00amTour of Shoreland Mansions with Patricia Bonaduce b.
