Minutes
The meeting called to order at 8:36 a.m. Present were Michelle Brown, Library Director, Kathleen Redmond,
President, Cheryl Gowing, Vice President, Laura Farley, Secretary, Christine Gay, and Nancy Frehling

Guests: None
1. Approval of minutes of the March 29, 2023 Special Meeting: deferred; motion carried.
2. Community Alliance Report: Not applicable
3. Financial Report:
Ms. Brown reviewed the financial report through March 31, 2023 and reported budget is on point for six
month period. Ms. Gowing moved to accept financial report, Ms. Farley seconded, motion passed
4. Circulation Report: For the month of March: the Library circulated 2,908 items, and 76 holds placed.
There were 22 digital magazine and 160 e-book/e-audio check-outs on Overdrive, 5 sessions on Mango
Languages and 0 searches on Ancestry. Brain Pop Jr.-83 sessions. BrainFuse HelpNow, VetNow,
JobNow-8 Homework Help
The Library added 139 adult items, 35 youth items, and 26 media items and acquired 31 donations. 7
miscellaneous books were weeded, Staff repaired, changed and replaced 74 items.
The Library added 30 patrons – 20 adult residents, 4 child residents, 1 adult non-resident and 5 child non-
residents. The total patron count is currently 7,151. Total in person visits 2,415 for February, will report
March visits next month
5. Old Business:

Grand Opening Update/Budget: For April 26, 2023: expenses approximately $300 flautist, $100
photographer, $100 invitations, $ 65 postage, $1800 caterer, $100glasses, etc. Amount not to exceed
$3000. Ms. Redmond moved to approve, Ms. Gowing seconded, motion passed. Invitations sent to
Donors, former Board of Trustees, Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce, Village Council and several
other dignitaries. May 20, 2023 Community Open House of Sydow Children & Family Wing: Ms.
Holsing developing schedule for story time and show must RSVP (limit 100 persons) children’s lunch,
using outdoors as well as new wing for party. Budget not to exceed $2,000. Ms. Gowing moved to
accept motion, Ms. Frehling seconded, motion passed.
Pollinator Patch Proposal Update: Suggested offering Library Garden area to Cecilia Ise. Girl Scouts
to maintain as well as Bound by Beauty
Lighting Selection: Several Selections were reviewed by board members and approved
Other Items
a. HPM Exhibit Request: It was suggested to propose June 1,2023 or June 8, 2023
b. Yoga Proposal – Mariana Scotti: deferred
c. Ancestry.com: Consideration of Renewal: $1500/year, motion to cancel, Ms. Frehling so moved,
Ms. Gowing seconded four approved, one abstained, motion passed.
6. Announcements:
a. Library Board sponsors MSCA April 5: arrive by 8:15, wear library shirts
b. Master Gardener Series-Saturdays April 8, 15 ,22 at 10:30am
c. Fine Arts Gallery Night: April21, 2023 at 6:30 pm
d. Tour of Shoreland Mansions with Patricia Bonaduce – May 13 at 10am
e. Community Open House – May 20, 11:00am – 2:00pm
f. The next scheduled Board meeting: May 10, 2023 at 8:30am

8. Adjournment: Motion to adjourn was made by Ms. Redmond, seconded by Ms. Farley. The meeting was
adjourned at 10:05am
