A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI SHORES
VILLAGE, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE VILLAGE MANAGER
OR DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT AN EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL
JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT APPLICATION FROM THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT (FDLE) FOR
THE VILLAGE POLICING AND ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM;
PROVIDING CERTIFICATIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Miami Shores Village (the "Village") continues its interest in improving
Community Policing and Engagement through high-visibility bicycle and pedestrian safety
("the Program"); and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation's FY 2024 Highway Safety
Matrix ranks Miami Shores #21 for pedestrian, or bicyclist crashes between 2017-2021;
and
14 WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement ("FDLE") administers the
15 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant ("JAG Grant"), a formula-based, block-
16 grant program from the U.S. Department of Justice, to improve the criminal justice
17 system; and
18 WHEREAS, the Village has previously been awarded funding through the JAG
19 Program for other community outreach programs and is requesting $3,596.00 for
20 pedestrian and cyclist education to reduce crashes; and
21 WHEREAS, the Village Council desires to authorize the Village Manager to submit
22 a JAG Grant application on behalf of the Village and execute any and all subsequent
23 agreements or documents with FDLE; and
24 WHEREAS, the Village finds that this resolution will promote the health, safety and
25 welfare of the Village.
26 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
27 MIAMI SH ORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
28 Section 1. Recitals Adopted. That each of the above stated recitals is hereby
29 adopted and confirmed.
30 Section 2. Authorization. The Village Manager or designee is authorized to
31 submit a JAG Grant application and execute any and all subsequent agreements or
32 documents with FDLE, subject to the Village Attorney's approval as to form, content and
33 legal sufficiency.
34 Section 4. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately
35 upon adoption hereof.
