Intelligent Sensing Intelligent Sensing is a set of software algorithms that provide the AFP-300/400 with industry -leading smoke detection capability. The development of these sophisticated algorithms are made possible by the close coop- eration between Notifier and System Sensor, the world leaders in fire detection and alarm technology. These complex algorithms require many calculations on each reading of each detector, and are made possible by the very high speed microcomputer used by the AFP-300/400 (16-bit RISC Reduced Instruction Set Computer). 0 Drift Compensation and Smoothing. These al- gorithms (U.S. patent pending) identify and compensate for long-term changes in the analog readings from each smoke sensor. Long-term changes are usually caused Analog by dust accumulation inside the smoke chamber. Drift Reading compensation allows the detector to retain its original ability to detect actual smoke, and resist false alarms, Alarm Level even as dirt accumulates. It reduces maintenance re- quirements by allowing the system to automatically per- form the periodic sensitivity measurements required by wnn oorr.pen5at,or NFPA. Smoothing filters are also provided by software to a„dswWHr9 remove transient noise signals, usually caused by elec- trical interference. Different smoothing algorithms are Time (days) —o A-0—f used, depending on the sensitivity selection of each de- tector. r-----,t © Maintenance Warnings. When the drift compensation DIRTY performed for a detector reaches a certain level, the performance Maintenance of the detector may be compromised, and special warnings are Urgent — given. There are three warning levels: (1) Low Chamber value, Maintenance usually indicative of a hardware problem in the detector; (2) Alert Maintenance Alert, indicative of dust accumulation that is near but below the allowed limit; (3) Maintenance Urgent, indicative Acceptable Range of dust accumulation above the allowed limit. The Maintenance Alert level allows maintenance before the performance of the device is compromised. Low Chamber' 1 © Sensitivity Adjust. Nine sensitivity levels are provided for Reading —► LOw alarm detection. These levels can be set manually, or can Value change automatically between day and night. Nine levels of pre- Awa 2winf alarm sensitivity can also be selected, based on predetermined levels of alarm. Pre -alarm operation can be latching or self - restoring, and can be used to activate special control functions that are a subset of the alarm control program. 0 Self -Optimizing Pre -Alarm. Each detector may be set for "Self -Optimizing" pre -alarm. In this special mode, the detec- _ Prealarm Threshold for "learns" its normal environment, measuring the peak analog ' - - _ - _ - readings over a long period of time, and setting the pre -alarm _ - - - ' - - - - - " level just above these normal peaks. This allows extremely fik`'` iN'a'' tri`t''";>.,«,14` n..+ ,:r`✓1n f.,,'%`t' sensitive pre -alarm capability with reasonable protection against Normal Threshold non -fire signals. ©cooperating Multi -Detector Sensing. A feature of Time (days) - A.a 4wmf intelligent sensing is the ability of a smoke sensor to consider readings from nearby sensors in making alarm or pre -alarm o decisions. Using logic algorithms, each sensor can include up P Q Alarm to two other sensors in its decision. Without statistical sacrifice a:_ - - - - - - - - -in the ability to resist false alarms, it allows a sensor to increase U Combined CO its sensitivity to actual smoke by a factor of almost 2 to 1. Multi- 3 Sensors detector sensing also allows the combination of ionization with photoelectric technology in reaching an alarm decision. p Cn . Time (minutes) 5262aw5wmf DN-5262 • 10/31/05 — Page 5 of 10 FIELD PROGRAMMING OPTIONS AUTOPROGRAM Autoprogram is a timesaving feature of the 300/400. It is a AUTOPROGRAM PLEASE WAIT special software routine that allows the 300/400 to ' learn" what devices are physically connected and automatically load them in the program with default values for all param- eters. Requiring less than 30 seconds to run, this routine allows the user to have almost immediate fire protection in L 1:80 Dl rS, 15 MODS L2:93 Dt TS. 35 MODS a new installation, even if only a portion of the detectors PANEL OUTPUTS:24 r3EI,I,S: 04 are installed. The routine will find all intelligent detectors and modules, and present them to the installer for edit of the de- fault option selections, if desired. If a device is found that already exists in memory, autoprogram skips over that device (only new devices or missing devices are presented to the installer). Often the installer will perform autoprogram as a first step in a new installation, then upload the program into a PC to add all custom labels and other information, then download from the PC to the 300/400. KEYPAD PROGRAM EDIT The 300/400 has the exclusive feature of full program cre- ENTER PROD OR STAT PASSWORD, TI IEN ation and edit capability from the front panel keypad, while ENTER (ESCAPE TO ABORT) ***** continuing to provide fire protection. The architecture of the 300/400 software is such that each point entry carries its own program, including control -by -event links to other points. This allows the program to be entered with indepen- 0=C I.R I=AU"rO 2=POINT 3=PASS WD 4=MESSAGE dent per -point segments, while the 300/400 simultaneously 5=ZONES 6=SPI- FUNGI' 7=SYS'l-EM 8=CI IECK PRG monitors other (already installed) points for alarm conditions. In addition to avoiding system shutdown, program edit from the panel keypad has the advantage of not requiring an on -site PC. This can save significant installation time for minor program changes. The 300/400 site -specific program is password protected, and all information is stored in nonvolatile memory. Menu "trees' are provided to lead the trained installer through the program steps without the necessity to refer to the programming manual. VeriFire® Software PC software is available for off-line programming and test utility that can greatly reduce installation programming time, and increase confidence in the site -specific software. VeriFire® is a Windows® -based program providing techno- logically advanced capabilities to aid the installer The in- staller may create the entire program for the 300/400 in the comfort of the office, test it, store a backup file, then bring it to the site and download from a laptop into the panel. The program includes error checks for common program- ming mistakes, such as an input point that does not activate any outputs, or an output point that is not linked to any inputs. It also includes a simulation routine that will list all of the output points that are activated by a particular input point (alternatively, it will list all the input points that are linked to a particular output). Although this does not eliminate on -site testing, it greatly increases confidence in the final installa- tion. For example, a 200-input and 100-output point system, without using the software, could require 20,000 test ob- servations to verify all possible 1/0 links. The software includes a compare routine, pictured at right, that can also greatly help the installer. When a new program is created, it may be compared with a previous version and differences are highlighted. If the program is modified from the panel keypad, it may be uploaded into the PC, and com- pared with the previous version stored on disk. The identifi- cation of program differences greatly helps the installer in testing the installation. NFPA 72 requires that reacceptance test of a fire alarm system be performed on 100% of all points that are "known" to be modified. The software allows the installer to determine the exact points that are changed. 5262-2 of Page 6 of 10 — DN-5262 • 10/31/05 s,.s I - f Rde System Parameters. Output Circuits: • +24 VDC filtered, regulated. • 3.0 A maximum for any one circuit. • Total continuous current for all outputs (stand-alone mode): — FCPS-24FS8: 6.0 A maximum. • Total short-term current for all outputs (NAC expander mode): — FCPS-24FS8: 8.0 A maximum. df-52310:A1 •08/25/09 — Page 1 of 4 Secondary Power (Battery) Charging Circuit: • Supports lead -acid batteries only. • Float -charge voltage: 27.6 VDC. • Maximum current charge: 250 mA. • Maximum battery capacity: 7.0 AH. Applications Example 1: Expand notification appliance power an additional 8.0 A. Use up to four Class B (Style Y) outputs or four Class A (Style Z) outputs (using ZNAC-4). For example, the FACP noti- fication appliance circuits will activate the FCPS when reverse - polarity activation occurs. Trouble conditions on the FCPS are sensed by the FACP through the notification appliance circuit. Example 2: Use the FCPS to expand auxiliary regulated 24- volt system power up to 6.0 A. Both resettable and non -reset - table power options are available. Resettable outputs are cre- ated by connecting the resettable output from the FACP to one or both of the FCPS inputs. Example 3: Use addressable control modules to activate the FCPS instead of activating it through the FACP notification appliance circuits. This typically allows for mounting the FCPS at greater distances' away from the FACP while expanding system architecture in various applications. For example, an addressable control module is used to acti- vate the FCPS, and an addressable monitor module is used to sense FCPS trouble conditions. Local auxiliary power output from the FCPS provides power to the addressable control module. 'NOTE. Addressable FACPs are capable of locating control and monitor modules at distances of up to 10,000 feet (3,046 meters) . Sync Follower/Generator Note In some installations, it is necessary to synchronize the flash timing of all strobes in the system for ADA compliance. Strobes accomplish this by monitoring very short timing pulses on the NAC power which are created by the FACP. When installed at the end of a NAC wire run, the FCPS-24FS8 can track (i.e. "follow") the strobe synchronization timing pulses on the existing NAC wire run. This maintains the overall system flash timing of the additional strobes attaches to the FCPS. When the FCPS-24FS8 is configured (via DIP switch settings) as a "sync follower;' the FCPS's NAC outputs track the strobe synchronization pulses present at the FCPS's sync input ter- minal. The pulses originate from an upstream FACP or other power supply. When the FCPS-24FS8 is configured (via DIP switch settings) as a "sync generator;' the FCPS's sync input terminals are not used. Rather, the FCPS is the originator of the strobe synchro- nization pulses on the FCPS's NAC outputs. In "sync genera- tor' mode, the sync type (System Sensor, Wheelock, or Gentex) is selectable via DIP switch settings. Standards and Codes The FCPS-24FS8 complies with the following standards: • NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code. • UL 864 Standard for Control Units for Fire Alarm Systems (NAC expander mode). • UL 1481 Power Supplies for Fire Alarm Systems. Copies of this manual are available from System Sensor. NFPA 72 and NEMA guidelines should be observed. NOTICE: This manual should be left with the owner/user of this equipment. IMPORTANT: The detector used with this base must be tested and maintained regularly following NFPA 72 requirements. The detector should be cleaned at least once a year. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The B200SR sounder base is used with System Sensor 200-Series sensor heads or equivalent. For a fist of compatible sensors, refer to the System Sensor web - site at www.systemsensor.com. Refer to the appropriate manual for more infor- mation on sensors. The B200SR sounder base was designed specifically to meet the needs of dwelling unit applications. It offers maximum flexibility in configuration and operation to meet or exceed the requirements of UL268 and UL464. The sounder base is capable of producing either the distinctive three -pulse temporal pattern (ANSI Temporal 3) fire alarm signal now required by NFPA 72 for commercial and residential applications or a continuous tone by simply removing the included jumper from the device. Additionally, the B200SR is designed to be compatible with existing installations of B501-Series sounder bases. The sounder base is intended for use with intelligent systems. The sounder base requires an external 24 VDC power supply. The connections for the external power supply and the communication loop are isolated to prevent electrical interaction between them. Refer to the panel manual for maximum allowable number of units per loop. NOTE: For NFPA72 Installations, the Temporal 3 tone should be used for public mode evacuation. NOTE: When not used as a supplementary evacuation system, the external 24 VDC supply shall be treated as a component of the main power supply system and shall fall under the requirements of the main power supply system per NFPA 72. WIRING GUIDELINES All wiring must be installed in compliance with the National Electrical Code and the local codes having jurisdiction and must not be of such length or wire size which would cause the base to operate outside of its published specifica- tions. The conductors used to connect smoke sensors to control panels and accessory devices should be color coded to reduce the likelihood of wiring errors. Improper connections can prevent a system from responding properly in the event of a fire. Wire sizes up to 12 AWG (2.5 mmz) may be used with the base. The sounder base will be shipped with the screw terminals set for 14 AWG wiring. If 12 AWG wire is to be used, back out the screws to allow the wire to fit beneath the clamping plates. For best system performance, the power (+ and -) wires and the communication circuit wires should be twisted air or shielded cable installed in a separate grounded conduit to protect the communication loop from electrical interference. Make wire connections by stripping about 3/8" of insulation from the end of the wire. Then, slide the bare end of the wire under the appropriate clamping plate (See Figure 1), and tighten the clamping plate screw. Do NOT loop the wire under the clamping plate (See Figure 2) The wiring diagram for a typical 2-wire intelligent system is shown in Figure 4. ACAUTION For system monitoring - for terminals 4 and 5, do not use looped wire under termi- nals. Break wire run as shown in Figure 2 to provide monitoring of connections. The plate will mount directly to 4" square, 4" octagon, single gang and double gang junc- tion boxes. 1. Connect field wiring to terminals, as shown in Figure 1 and 2. 2. Attach the mounting plate to the junction box as shown in Figure 3. 3. To mount the sounder base, hook the tab on the sounder base to the groove on the mounting plate. 4. Then, swing the sounder base into position to engage the pins on the product with the terminals on the mounting plate. 5. Secure the sounder base by tightening the mounting screws. 6. Install a compatible smoke sensor as described in the installation manual for the sensor. TESTING AND MAINTENANCE Sensors and bases must be tested after installation and as an integral part of a periodic maintenance program. Test the B200SR as follows: NOTE: Before testing, notify the proper authorities that the smoke sensor system is undergoing maintenance and, therefore, will be temporarily out of service. Disable the system undergoing maintenance to prevent unwanted alarms. 1. If configured as in Figure 4 and 5, reverse the polarity of the external 24VDC supply. If configured as in Figure 5, turn on the Intelligent Relay Module. All B200SR bases on the loop should sound. 2. Latch the sensor LED on from the control panel. That individual sensor's B200SR should sound. When performing maintenance on connected smoke sensors, carefully note the location and address of each removed sensor. FIGURE 3: MOUNTING Location of jumper — remove to enable continuous tone C0891-03 SS-4S0-001 2 156-3392-003R FIGURE 4: WIRING DIAGRAM DETECTOR ACTIVATES SOUNDER BASE(S) - (COMPLIES WITH UL268) UL has approved grouping for up to six B200SR sounder bases. When wired as a group, any detector in the group that has been activated by the panel will cause other B200SR units in the group to sound. This type of "local" grouping is accomplished by wiring the grouped devices together using terminal 6, Sounder Base Interconnect, as shown in the diagram. This interconnect can also be used to attach B200SR devices to System Sensor B501-Series sounder bases. Some Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP) support the grouping of sounder bases via software in lieu of the Sounder Base Interconnect. NOTE: A local grouping of horns via the sounder base interconnect is not supervised, therefore the groups can only be used as a supplementary evacuation system. FRM-1(A) Relay Module: The FRM-1(A) Addressable Relay Module provides the system with a dry -contact output for acti- vating a variety of auxiliary devices, such as fans, dampers, control equipment, etc. Addressability allows the dry contact to be activated, either manually or through panel programming, on a select basis. FlashScan® (U.S. Patent 5,539,389) is a communication pro- tocol developed by NOTIFIER Engineering that greatly enhances the speed of communication between analog intelli- gent devices. Intelligent devices communicate in a grouped fashion. If one of the devices within the group has new infor- mation, the panel CPU stops the group poll and concentrates on single points. The net effect is response speed greater than five times that of other designs. Features • Built-in type identification automatically identifies these devices to the control panel. • Internal circuitry and relay powered directly by two -wire SLC loop. The FCM-1(A) module requires power (for horns, strobes, etc.), or audio (for speakers). • Integral LED "blinks" green each time a communication is received from the control panel and turns on in steady red when activated. • LED blink may be deselected globally (affects all devices). • High noise immunity (EMF/RFI). • The FCM-1(A) may be used to switch 24-volt NAC power, audio (up to 70.7 Vrms). • Wide viewing angle of LED. • SEMS screws with clamping plates for wiring ease. • Direct -dial entry of address 01— 159 for FlashScan loops, 01 — 99 for CLIP mode loops. • Speaker, and audible/visual applications may be wired for Class B or A (Style Y or Z). Applications The FCM-1(A) is used to switch 24 VDC audible/visual power, high-level audio (speakers). The FRM-1(A) may be pro- grammed to operate dry contacts for applications such as door holders or Air Handling Unit shutdown, and to reset four -wire smoke detector power. NOTE. Refer to the SLC Manual (PN 51253) for details regarding releasing applications with the FCM-1(A). Refer to the FCM-I-REL datasheet (DN-60390) for new FlashScanO releasing applications. Construction • The face plate is made of off-white heat -resistant plastic. • Controls include two rotary switches for direct -dial entry of address (01-159). J NOTIFIER' by Honeywell Tlt E.t PWR( © . WA• e T10 E.,P 1'1 xc(iT1 :(. OF UN'' FCM-1(A) • The FCM-1(A) is configured for a single Class B (Style Y) or Class A (Style Z) Notification Appliance Circuit. • The FRM-1(A) provides two Form-C dry contacts that switch together. Operation Each FCM-1(A) or FRM-1(A) uses one of 159 possible module addresses on a SLC loop (99 on CLIP loops). It responds to regular polls from the control panel and reports its type and status, including the open/normal/short status of its Notifica- tion Appliance Circuit (NAC). The LED blinks with each poll received. On command, it activates its internal relay. The FCM-1(A) supervises Class B (Style Y) or Class A (Style Z) notification or control circuits. Upon code command from the panel, the FCM-1(A) will dis- connect the supervision and connect the external power sup- ply in the proper polarity across the load device. The disconnection of the supervision provides a positive indication to the panel that the control relay actually turned ON. The external power supply is always relay isolated from the com- munication loop so that a trouble condition on the external power supply will never interfere with the rest of the system. Rotary switches set a unique address for each module. The address may be set before or after mounting. The built-in TYPE CODE (not settable) will identify the module to the con- trol panel, so as to differentiate between a module and a sen- sor address. With an extended temperature range of —31°F to 150°F (-40°C to 66°C), Wheelock weatherproof appliances meet or exceed UL outdoor test requirements for rain, humidity and corrosion resistance while providing multiple strobe intensity options, including the highest strobe ratings available for area coverage per NFPA 72 strobe spacing tables (up to 185 candela for wall mounting and 177 candela for ceiling mounting). To enable weatherproof mounting, Cooper -Wheelock provides the industry's widest choice of mounting options for surface or unique semi -flush installation. Models are available for surface mounting to Wheelock weatherproof backboxes on walls or ceilings. The optional WP-KIT allows the weatherproof backboxes (106, WPBB or WPSBB) to be mounted to a recessed electrical box for concealed conduit installation. For semi -flush installation, the WPA and WFPA kits allow a customer to mount the weatherproof appliances to a recessed electrical box without the need for an external weatherproof backbox. See the Backboxes, Plates and Gaskets Table on page three of this document for a summarization of these mounting options and the required accessories. 06 FM M EA APPROVED E5946 151-92-E 7125-0785:131 (ASWP) S5391 7125-0785:146 (ET70WP) S2652 7125-0785156 (MTWP) 7300-0785:154 (RSSWP) • Approvals include: UL Standards 1971, 1638, 464 and 1480 California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) and New York City (MEA), Factory Mutual (FM) and Chicago (BFP) .
