SUSTAINABILITYAND RESILIENCY COMMITTEE MINUTES
DATE: August 17, 2022 TIME: 6:30 PM Council Chambers
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Meyer

Ms. Claudia Hasblln, Director, Planning & Zoning
Ms. Mariana Gracia, Recording Secretary
Introductions by the Board:
Ms. Pappaterra — Gave a brief introduction about her background in environmental
systems.
Ms. Meyer — Gave a brief introduction about her background. She is a hotel owner and
has a passion for Sustainability.
Ms. Weber — Gave a brief introduction about her background as a financial agent. She
has a passion for Sustainability and believes that educating the public is key.
Mr. Brown — Gave a brief introduction about his background as an environmental
educator. He wrote the History of Little Haiti. Has a downtown Miami Office and works
with different Committees.
Ill. Minutes —June 2, 2021
Motion to approve the minutes by Ms. Meyer, seconded by Ms. Weber
and the Motion was approved 3-1 with Ms. Pappaterra abstaining.
IV. Discussion Items:
a. Set up meeting calendar for 2022
Discussion by the Committee and Staff in pursuit of dates for the next four
meetings.
The next meetings are set for - September 14, 2022 at 6:30 PM
October 19, 2022 at 6:30 PM — Conflict with HPB
November 16, 2022 at 6:30 PM — Conflict with HPB
December 14, 2022 at 6:30 PM
Motion to approve meeting dates by Ms. Meyer, seconded by Mr. Brown
and the Motion was approved 4-0.
b. Chair initiatives
Ms. Meyer spoke about research she had been doing about past Council meetings and
how this Committee started. There have been many changes — The Comprehensive Plan
touches on Sustainability Committee. We need to focus on immediate needs. — Work as a
liaison with the community. We must first lay a foundation in the area of Sustainability.
We need to look at how issues addressed in the past. Overall, looking at the Strategic
Plan there were a small group of residents that participated.
Ms. Weber asked the question, how much control do we have? We need a draft Strategic
Plan on the agenda for next meeting.
Ms. Hasbun asked the Board to define and said the Board can recommend to Council,
Suggest to Council.
Ms. Hasbun commended Ms. Meyer on doing a great job connecting dots, how structure
are necessary. Taking small steps to bring set of goals.
Ms. Meyer — Mission Statement write a skeleton. Baby steps are necessary.
Ms. Hasbun will send out an email to the Board about the Infrastructure Element.
The comments by the Board please send to Ms. Hasbun.

There was discussion in pursuit of the physical infrastructure. The Board feels a need to
invite the Public Works Director to present.
The Board briefly spoke about the Comp Plan — general to specific — how to make it
work. There is an interest in the community about the conversion from septic to sewer.
Ms. Hasbun let the Board know that the Village has hired a Media person — Jesse has
started to create a section on Sustainability.
Ms. Hasbun suggested for the Board to bring items to create awareness in the public.
Come up with ideas to include in the webpage.
Ms. Weber informed the Board about a website called "Green America" that a link can be
included and we do not need to re -invent the wheel.
Mr. Brown spoke briefly about a character in the 1980's called "Recyclo" that got a lot of
attention in those days — we could have something like that.
There was discussion in pursuit of having some sort of teenage person have a short video
that can made public on the webpage.
Ms. Hasbun spoke briefly about the Comp Plan and how it is an analysis — written by a
Planning Firm and how it is a whole Village effort to put together.
c. Race to Zero Initiative
Ms. Hasbun informed the Board about the award that the Village received for the Race to
Zero Initiative. Providing assistance to smaller cities, baseline for greenhouse gas emissions
program. TECO Gas, FPL. The City of N. Miami — provided water to MSV. The Assistant
Village Manager is taking the lead with weekly meetings, which are very technical. On
September 13, 2022, Ms. Wilson will present to Council.
There was discussion about Board members inviting people they know to come on board to
volunteer at the Sustainability Committee.
The Board asked the question what is the public to do with solid waste. Ms. Meyer
mentioned, recycling place in Miami -Dade and how plastic bags are a no -no. This facility is
very eye opening, she said.
Mr. Brown likes the idea of taking a tour at the recycling facility in Miami -Dade.
