A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MIAMI
SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA, CERTIFYING AND
DECLARING THE OFFICIAL RESULTS OF THE GENERAL
AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS OF THE VILLAGE HELD ON
APRIL 11, 2023; PROVIDING FOR IMPLEMENTATION;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 7 of the Miami Shores Village (the "Village") Code
of Ordinances (the "Code"), a municipal election was held on April 11, 2023, to elect three
members of the Village Council (the "Council"); and
WHEREAS, in conjunction with the General Election and pursuant to Resolution
No. 2023-09, a Special Election was held on April 11, 2023, (the "Special Election") calling
for amendments to the Village Charter (the "Charter Amendments"); and
WHEREAS, the General and Special Elections have been canvassed and certified
by the Village's Canvassing Board; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council wishes to certify and declare the official results of
the General and Special Elections, as reflected in Exhibit "A," attached hereto and
incorporated herein; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and
welfare of the residents of the Village.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Recitals. The above recitals are confirmed, adopted, and
incorporated herein and made a part hereof by reference.
Section 2. Certifying General Election Results. The Village Council hereby
certifies and declares the official results of the General Election held on April 11, 2023,
as provided for in Exhibit "A," attached hereto and incorporated herein, which results are
summarized as follows:
1.That George Burch, receiving 1,742 votes, is hereby elected to a four-year
term as Council Member of Miami Shores Village;
2.That Jesse Valinsky, receiving 1,636 votes, is hereby elected to a four-year
term as Council Member of Miami Shores Village; and
3.That Jerome Charles, receiving 1,569 votes, is hereby elected to a two-year
term as Council Member of Miami Shores Village.
Section 3. Certifying Special Election Results. The Village Council hereby

certifies and declares the official results of the Special Election held on April 11, 2023, as
provided for in Exhibit "A," attached hereto and incorporated herein, which results are
summarized as follows:

Currently, the Village Charter contains non-substantive stylistic and
technical inaccuracies that require updates and changes.
Shall the Charter be amended to reflect non-substantive stylistic and
technical changes made for clarity, including re-naming and
numbering of sections and providing for gender neutrality?

Currently, the Village Charter does not include a Citizen's Bill of Rights.
Shall the Charter be amended to include a Citizen's Bill of Rights that
encourages citizen participation within Village government?

necessary.

a person to have resided in the Village for six (6) months prior to running for

Council's interference with the Village Manager's appointment, removal or
activities of Village employees.

activities of any Village Manager appointed employees, except the Council
may make requests that do not require substantial time of staff?

Section 4. Implementation. The Village Manager or designee is hereby
authorized to take such further action as may be necessary to implement the purpose
and provisions of this Resolution.

Section 5. Effective Date. That this Resolution shall be effective immediately
upon adoption.
