Meeting Minutes for Wednesday, March 8, 2023

Ms. Meyer called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM

3.A. MINUTES
Approval of the Minutes for February 8, 2022
Adjustment to minutes as follows:
Ms. Meyer would like to have a chance to review and edit the previous
minutes as she was not on time at the last meeting to fully grasp what
was presented.
Motion with corrections by Ms. Meyer and Second by Ms. Weber
the motion approved 5-0.

4. DISCUSSION ITEMS:
a) Comprehensive Plan – Climate Change, Resiliency and Sustainability White Paper – Future workshop
date.
Ms. Weber stated that she would like to see a more user friendly website that would provide a voice for
the residents of Miami Shores Village and help to promote sustainability and climate change incentives
that are more vocal and apparent.
Ms. Weber would like to invite the designer who designed the SoHo Highline of New York City. This will
provide insight and expertise to Miami Shores Village to help with climate change.
Ms. Hasbun stated that it is recommended to present the final draft to the council members for March 21st,
2023 so that the council can present this document to the consultants, the goal is to show that the
sustainability and resiliency body is being engaged and actively participating in adding a new element to
the comprehensive plan, to fill in a void regarding sustainability.
b) Green day event & committee participation – April 29, 2023.
Ms. Hasbun stated that the green day event is going to be a large event that will include a compose
vendor, different station companies promoting incentives for sustainability efforts and all this is going to
is going to bring awareness so that the residents are participating. 98th street is going to be green street.
Alternating of different committee members will be available at the event script options will be available
for the staff to present at the chamber of commerce to help give educational information
Public commentator Ms. Respondek suggested to have a tree give-away and add that as a
component in the event create a questionnaire and at their leisure answer those questions through
an email
Ms. Malebranche asked if we can pull minutes to be part of the script and add it in the flyer
Ms. Hasbun showed an infographic that has empty green boxes and asked the input of the
committee and make it shareable
Ms. Hasbun will send a time sheet to know who goes to the event in a sign-in sheet per order of
preference.
Ms. Meyer will add bullet points on who is tasked with which task.
Ms. Meyer volunteered on making t-shirts for the sustainability resiliency committee.

c) Village presentation discussion
Ms. Meyer would like to have a meeting setup with Mr. Miranda (Public Works Manager) to go
on a day site visits to see how the functions of the pump stations, recycling, and infrastructure
and other aspects of public works are being ran by Miami Shores Village.
5. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS
Ms. Weber showed a comparison about recycling, regarding food containers and other various
items from another community and showed it as an opportunity to specify these recycling issues
and address it on the website to help with the cause of sustainability.
