Meeting Minutes for Wednesday, January 11, 2023

1. CALL TO ORDER
Ms. Meyer called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM

Approval of the Minutes for December 7, 2022
Adjustment to minutes as follows:
Typo corrected
Swap from “regarding the action plan” to “regarding the recycle
website” instead.
Motion with corrections by Ms. Meyer and Second by Ms. Weber
the motion approved 5-0.

4. DISCUSSION ITEMS:
a. Final SRC Mission Statement Goals

Ms. Weber spoke about publishing the mission statement more effectively to residents in the
Village website in regards to the sustainability and newsletter mediums. She also had
comments regarding the language, but no modifications were provided.
Motion to approve by Ms. Meyer, seconded by Ms. Weber and the motion approved
5-0.
b. Comprehensive Plan- White Paper

Ms. Hasbun explained the EAR process and deadline for the first reading mentioned for
June 2023 public hearing.
Ms. Meyer brought up that the evaluation of the comp plan elements will be too difficult to
meet current deadlines. She proposed a workshop to discuss the white paper regarding
sustainability and Ms. Weber added to address sustainability and climate change.
Ms. McSherry proposed to create a new element addressing climate change within the comp
plan -goals and structures of the white paper is to introduce a new element that is unique to
the needs to the village and not replicating another municipality, Ms. Weber added.
Ms. Weber also added, a section of the draft should mention new ways to reduce greenhouse
emissions.
Ms. Meyer requested a workshop prior the next SRC schedule meeting, Ms. Hasbun to
coordinate the workshop for the first week of February.
Motion: “Ms. McSherry volunteered to draft a new element regarding resiliency and
sustainability between 25th-26th of January or leading into the first week of February if
necessary, to be presented by the next workshop.
Motion to approve by Ms. Meyer, seconded by Ms. Weber and the motion approved
5-0.
c. Draft 2023 Action Plan

Ms. Meyer asked Planning and Zoning Director Ms. Hasbun to ask the Village Manager to
be present at the next SRC meeting. Ms. Meyer asked the Planning and Zoning Director Ms.
Hasbun to provide a knowledge of discovery and ask the Village Manager to attend

February 8th, 2023 meeting to discuss Village project, for example where/how is the septic
to sewage and other project funding’s being allocated.
“Ms. Meyer stated to have the action plan be last in priority and focus on the workshop
and website. Move to March”
Motion to approve by Ms. Meyer, seconded by Ms. McSherry and the motion
approved 5-0.
5. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS
a. Vice Chair Weber

Ms. Meyer stated to have the website revised and in the recycling section state plastic containers
instead of just plastic.
b. Planning & Zoning Director Ms. Claudia Hasbun
Ms. Hasbun added that on January 28th, 2023, from 9:30am-11:30am the Miami Shores Village
Library will be hosting a seed swap day called “seed day deeds” and asked for the sponsoring
and support of the sustainably committee to donate food and beverages as well as meet and greet
with the residents.
6. NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING – Feb. 8, 2023.
