Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission subcommittee meeting held on April 25, 2022.
Members present:
Beth Dunlop
Clarissa Rodriguez
Also present:
Angela Dorney, Recreation Superintendent
Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant
Esmond Scott, Village Manager
Tanya Wilson, Assistant Village Manager
The meeting was called to order at 11:15 a.m.
Ms. Rodriguez related that the Commission is very passionate about the arts. In reviewing the Art
in Public Places procedures the Commission is being asked for Council review of the artwork
before speaking to the artist in question. Ms. Rodriguez is looking for clarification from Mr. Scott
on this new request.
Mr. Scott explained that up until now there has not been an existing policy for Art in Public Places
in the Village. Mr. Scott said that he would like the Council to be advised of the artwork, as a
matter of courtesy.
In regard to the art to be displayed in the lobby of Village Hall, Ms. Rodriguez suggested an
insurance rider for the work. Ms. Wilson recommended that the insurance be included into the
artist’s agreement. Ms. Rodriguez was tasked with creating a template for an insurance rider. Ms.
Wilson noted there are opportunities to raise money for APP such as including it into any new
developments. It was suggested adding an addendum to APP which would create a template for
art projects. Ms. Rodriguez will develop an artist template, which can be revised as needed. Ms.
Wilson added that after the Art in Public Procedures is approved, the document will be forwarded
to the Village Attorney to create an ordinance which will go before Council for appro val.
Ms. Dunlop noted that the land use plan can identify areas for art in public places.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
