The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m.
At this time the March concert featuring Sol and The Tribu was reviewed. Ms. Bowman suggested
that future concerts be scheduled on Fridays, which is a better day for families with young children,
and said that the location of the recreation fields is ideal. It was noted that the sound was
challenging for the band. A suggestion was made for bands to hire their own sound for future
concerts. Ms. Bowman suggested that the Commission have another concert.
At this time Ms. Ackley related an update on the NW 2nd Avenue project, noting that Baye has
formally withdrawn herself from consideration for the project. In a conversation with Baye, Ms.
Ackley indicated to the artist that some of the Commission members felt she was difficult to work
with. Baye later emailed the Village indicating that she is withdrawing herself from the project.
In regards to the project, Mr. Bruce indicated that he has seen artwork similar to Daniel Marosi’s
submission on a Facebook post.
At this time each Commission member gave their views on the two remaining submissions for the
project. Ms. Rodriguez felt that Jonathan Brooks’ art may get lost within the median and
landscaping and that Daniel Marosi’s submission would be fun and different on the median. Ms.
Bowman agreed with Ms. Rodriguez’s assessment of both artists, adding that Mr. Marosi ’s
installation is well thought out and provides art in the median without being obtrusive. Mr. Bruce
said Mr. Marosi’s design will create commentary from those viewing it and that Mr. Brooks would
need to modify his display to work in the space. Mr. Stock’s agreed with Mr. Marosi, but the
Commission will need to see if the artwork on Facebook is a matter of plagiarism. Ms. Ackley
agrees with Ms. Rodriguez’s comments on Mr. Brooks’ submission and suggested that he may be
an option for a future library exhibit; Mr. Marosi’s submission is playful and fun.
Ms. Dorney said that the Commission will need to wait until the Art in Public Places Procedures are
approved and signed off by the Council at their May meeting before proceeding further.
The meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
