Also present:
Angela Dorney, Recreation Superintendent
Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant
Daniel Marosi, Artist
The meeting was called to order at 6:12 p.m.
Mr. Marosi made his NW 2nd Avenue site specific presentation to the Commission. Mr. Marosi’s
concept is street signs that have inspirational messages; they are not directional signs. There
would be signs placed on each block that are continuous, displaying positive, friendly messages.
Mr. Marosi presented samples of the size scale of the messages. It was noted that the signs will
be aluminum and installed on sign posts. The proposal includes seven signs. Prop Masters would
manufacture the signs and the company usually does the installation. Ms. Dorney noted that that
the signs would need to be inspected by the Village after installation. At this time Mr. Marosi left
the meeting. The members noted that if artist Baye is selected for the project, an accurate budget
will need to be addressed.
Ms. Rodriguez made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 11, 2022 meeting.
Motion seconded by Mr. Stock and unanimously approved. Correction to the minutes of the
January 25, 2022 minutes. Page one, paragraph two, line seven; change ‘to host concerts for the
community’ to ‘for events in the community’. Ms. Rodriguez made a motion to approve the
minutes of the January 25, 2022 concert with corrections. Motion seconded by Ms.
Bowman and unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the April Gallery Night. Ms. Dunlop asked if the Chamber advertising is cost
effective, noting that advertising in the Biscayne Times may be more effective. Ms. Ackley said
that advertising could be less expensive if the Commission pay in advance for the year.
Discussion turned to election of Commission Chair and Vice Chair. Mr. Stock nominated Ms.
Ackley as Chair. Nomination seconded by Ms. Bowman and unanimously approved. Ms.
Rodriguez nominated Mr. Bruce as Vice Chair of the Commission. Nomination seconded by
Ms. Bowman and unanimously approved.
Discussion turned to the February 18th concert featuring French Horn Collective. Ms. Ackley
related that Borsalina is short staffed and unable to be a food vendor. Creative Catering will
provide sandwiches/salads. Nothing Bundt Cakes has been confirmed. Tinta’s has tentatively
agreed to be a food vendor at the March concert. Mr. Bruce said that Harper Juice is looking to
become involved in community events.
Discussion turned to the sculpture park. Ms. Dorney related that art pieces installed on Village
property need to be approved by the Village Manager. Ms. Bowman said that community group
Moms Making Waves would like to attend the March meeting to discuss art at Optimist Park. Ms.
Dunlop suggested that art placed in the park be interactive. Mr. Bruce suggested that a better
location for the mountain sculpture would be the NE 6th Avenue triangular location.
It was noted that Brockway Library is having an art contest and has asked the Commission to
judge the submissions. Submissions will be presented at the March meeting to be judged.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
