Minutes of the Recreation Advisory Committee held on February 7, 2022.

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m.
Ms. Carro made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 3, 2022. Motion
seconded by Ms. Mercado and unanimously approved.
Ms. Dorney related that each Village event this year will incorporate the 90 th Anniversary,
culminating in the 90th Anniversary celebration on November 5th. The kickoff event for the
Village’s 90th Anniversary was Brockway Library’s Black History Month, highlighting the Black
history of Miami Shores.
It was related that the Farmer’s Market will return to Optimist Park on Sunday’s through April.
Discussion turned to the ULI Grant. Ms. Dorney noted that the first meeting was held with a
planner and architect and they were given a tour of all the recreation sites, including field
space. The ULI will come back with a recommendation to either renovate or build a new
facility.
Discussion turned to the baseball RFQ. It was noted that Danny Berry was the sole
respondent. A meeting has been scheduled with Mr. Barry to discuss his expectations.
It was noted that a Fine Arts concert is scheduled for February 18th on the recreation fields.
Field trips will be brought back to summer programming this year.
It was noted that the pickleball clinics held in January were well attended. The recreation
department plans on scheduling monthly clinics due to the increased popularity. A fun
pickleball and tennis tournament have been scheduled in March.
Discussion turned to Easter. Mr. Ise as well as Ms. Carro said that the Marshmal low Drop is a
very unique event and suggested bringing it back. Mr. Schwarte, suggested renting a plane for
the event.
Ms. Dorney noted that the pool is looking into patrons bringing in their own food and limiting
the options from the concession area.
Mr. Ise suggested the Village explore quarterly community bike rides.
