2022-02-09 LB MinutesBoard of Trustees Michelle Brown, Library Director Christine Gay, President Kathy Redmond, Vice President Cheryl Gowing, Secretary Laura Farley Nancy Frehling MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 8:30am Brockway Memorial Library Reference Room 10021 NE Second Avenue Miami Shores, Florida 33138 Minutes The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. Present were Michelle Brown, Library Director; Christine Gay, President; Kathy Redmond, Vice-President; Laura Farley and Nancy Frehling. Excused: Cheryl Gowing. PUBLIC COMMENT: None PRESENTATION: 1. Mary Benton, Bound by Beauty, presented works of art by Kim Heise which Bound by Beauty would like to display at the Library in April. Christine Gay moved to approve the exhibit; Kathy Redmond seconded. Motion Passed. 2. Susan Ackley, Fine Arts Commission, presented works of art by Maria T. Barbist which the Fine Arts Commission would like to display at the Library, including a Gallery Night on April 28, 2022. Christine Gay moved to approve the exhibit; Laura Farley seconded. Motion Passed. GUESTS: Village Manager, Esmond Scott and Assistant Manager, Tanya Wilson 1. Approval of the minutes of the January 12, 2022 and January 26, 2022, meeting: Motion to approve both minutes by Christine Gay; seconded by Kathy Redmond. Motion Passed. 2. Community Alliance Report – Nancy Frehling and Kathy Redmond attended the Alliance meeting via and reported on updates. 3. Financial Report: Ms. Brown reviewed the financial report. The Library received a grant from the Community Alliance to host a teen art program with MOCA. In January 2022, the Library collected $37.50 from the yoga classes. Ms. Hynes has fulfilled the hours for the SEFLIN digitization grant, and will be paid the grant money. Motion to accept the financial report by Kathy Redmond; seconded by Christine Gay. Motion passed. 4. Circulation Report: There were 2,536 circulations of library materials in January and 99 holds. Copies added: 109 adult titles, 29 youth, 27 media. Fifty-two donations were accepted and 23 titles weeded. Twenty-nine new patrons were added in January 2022: 14 Adult residents, 9 child residents, 4 adult non-resident, and 2 child non-resident. There are currently 6730 registered library patrons. • Digital collections: 298 checkouts on Overdrive; 32 digital magazine checkouts; 88 searches on Ancestry; 44 searches on Mango Languages. • In-person service: 1,790 patrons 5. Old Business • Construction Update – Front Doors o Ms. Brown provided a photo of the front doors with a proposed fire exit push bar, and is working to order same. • Saturday hours have been set as of March 1, 2022 from 9am-3pm. Mr. Scott stated that the Village Council was pleased with the new, extended Saturday hours. 6. Other Items • Ms. Brown is researching new security gate options for the front entrance. • The Library is the process of hiring a new shelver. In the future, the Library hopes to hire a PT archivist. Proposed changes to the Library’s org chart were discussed. • The Board discussed whether to revise the current Library policy for Barry University students and teachers. This matter was deferred to the March 2022 meeting for further discussion. • The Board informed Mr. Scott that they would like to discuss Ms. Brown’s compensation with him at a later date. 7. Announcements and Special Events • Art Contest opens February 14th – MSV 90 years of fostering community • Next scheduled Board Meeting: March 9, 2022 at 8:30am.
