1. Old Business:
• Selection of flooring for Main Library: The Board reviewed the designs for carpet and laminate
wood flooring and placement of same in the Main Library. The Board recommended the ‘grass’
carpet pattern and color scheme that is complimentary to the leaf design used in the new
Children’s wing, The ‘grass’ carpet will be used throughout the Main Library, without the use of
laminate wood floors. It was noted that future capital project would be to replace the current
tile floor in the book sale area.
• Front door/Security Gates: Stobs Construction informed Ms. Brown that as per code new
emergency exit push bars will need to be added to the front wood/glass doors. The doors are
original to the Library and should be retained, but placement of the modern exit push bars will be
a design challenge. It was recommended that the Library also investigate the replacement of the
library security gate, which is the original gate installed over 25 years ago. The current placement
creates a narrow entry passage. Contemporary gate systems have a wider field of coverage and
can automatically collect entry/exit data with a more compact design. Ms. Brown will contact
security gate vendors to investigate options and pricing. A new entry way rubber mat will be
needed, but care must be taken to make sure it covers the entry way without obstructing the
security gates or swing of the door.
• Placement of Children’s Wing signage: The Board reviewed options for placing the Sydow
Children’s Wing sign, recommending it be located above the threshold into the new wing. Since
the renovation project no longer encompasses a complete renovation of the existing Children’s
area in addition to the new wing, it was suggested a modified name might be a better fit for the
new wing. Names to explore with the Sydow Estate Trustees are: Sydow Children’s Wing;
Sydow Family Commons; Sydow Family Learning Commons; Sydow Learning Commons.
