HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MEETING MINUTES

1.CALL TO ORDER
Ms. Bonaduce called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

Motion to appoint the Vice Chair to the Board by Ms. Bonaduce– Ms. Bonaduce volunteered
to be the Vice Chair

Approval of the Minutes for April 27th, 2021

Motion to approve the Minutes of April 27, 2021 by Mr.
Bachay, seconded by Ms. Frehling and the Motion was
approved 4-0
3.B. State’s historical marker program.
Mr. Bachay spoke about the marker program. He informed the
Board that he contacted the State for information. The Village
properties are ideal for the marker. The Golf Course, Miami
Shores Elementary. There are different public structures that can
be potential for the marker. There was discussion among the
Board and Staff regarding the marker.
The Board thought that the marker program was a great idea.
There was discussion amongst the Board and Staff regarding the
cost of each marker that will be somewhere around $4,000.00 per
maker. There is consensus about proposing 3 markers this year
and the remaining later on. Building and Homes recommended
for discussion and approval by Historic Preservation Board for
State Historical Marker Program:
1. Marker on MSV History – can be placed on any MSV
property – recommend Village Hall or Village Park on NE 2
Avenue.
2. Miami Shores Golf Course – 1939 – the golf course not the
structure.
3. Miami Shores Elementary School – 1939 – Robert Law Weed
4. Old Pump House – 1925
5. Grand Concourse Apartments – 1925/1926 – Robert Law
Weed
6. Med Houses for Shoreland Company Officers on NE 96th
Street.

284 NE 96 Street – Riach House
287 NE 96 Street – Ellen Spears Harris
Motion to approve the proposed homes by Ms. Headley,
seconded by Ms. Frehling and the Motion was approved 4-0.
4. DISCUSSION ITEM(S)
4.A. Review and consideration of an update to the application and file for
historic designation.
Discussion about the application as amended provided by Ms. Bonaduce.
Motion to approve the application as amended by Mr. Bachay,
seconded by Ms. Frehling and the Motion was approved 4-0.

4.B. Designation of Historic Homes without consent.
Ms. Bonaduce said she prefers to have owner’s consent. For many
reasons she said. There was discussion amongst the Board and
Staff. The Legal department will be asked by Mr. Kendall to
opine about this item.
Motion to table this item until next meeting when the all the
Board Members will be present by Mr. Bachay, seconded by
Ms. Bonaduce and the Motion was approved 4-0.
4.C. NEXT REGULAR BOARD HEARING –Next Regula Meeting set for
Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
5. ADJOURNMENT
Motion to adjourn by Mr. Bachay, seconded by Ms. Bonaduce and the Motion was approved 4-0.
The Village Council may consider and act upon such other business as may come before it. In the event this
agenda must be revised, such revised copies will be available to the public at Village Hall.
