2021-08-17 FAC Minutes Minutes of the Fine Arts Commission held via Zoom on August 17, 2021. Members present: Susan Ackley Beth Boone Tia Bowman Victor Bruce Luis Crump Michael Stock Also present: Angela Dorney, Recreation Superintendent Leslie Rackl, Executive Assistant The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Ms. Dorney related that since this meeting is held via Zoom instead of in person, any motions made and approved by the Commission will need to be ratified by the Village Council. It was noted that the Commission was awarded a $3,500 art in public places grant from the Miami Shores Community Alliance. Ms. Ackley related that the Chamber of Commerce has postponed Green Day. Ms. Ackley said that Sol and The Tribu, the band scheduled for a September concert, has been advised that the concert has been cancelled. Mr. Stock suggested continuing with the concert with people wearing masks but cancelling any food vendors. Ms. Boone noted that Miami Light Project will be hosting an in person program with reduced attendees also wearing masks. Ms. Boone added that postponing Sol and The Tribu may be a good idea. Mr. Bruce added that everything is changing so quickly and is unsure about an event without food. Ms. Bowman is inclined to postpone, adding that there is no handle on Covid currently. Ms. Bowman made a motion that the Commission vote on continuing with the September concert or postponing until a later time. The Commission unanimously decided to postpone the September 17th concert. Motion seconded by Mr. Bruce and unanimously approved. Further discussion regarding Sol and The Tribu was tabled until the September meeting. Discussion turned to the October Library Art Exhibit. The suggestion was made to postpone the October Exhibit, which will also allow for additional submissions. It was noted that the Call to Artists was sent out to 14 organizations with only four submissions. Further discussion on the October Exhibit was postponed until the September meeting. It was noted that currently there have been no submissions received from the Call to Artists for the NW Art in Public Places location. Mr. Bruce suggested posting the Call to Artists on social media. At this time it was decided to table discussion on Art in Public Places in Village Hall’s lo bby as well as the seawall. It was noted that the September meeting will be an in person meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
