CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ockert. II. Present: Mr. Daniel Suman — left at 7:00 Mr. Thomas Johnson Mr. Darren Ockert Ms. Marjorie Weber Ms. Patricia Pappaterra Mr. David Brown Absent: Mr. Juan Pablo Ortega Also present: Mr. Travis Kendall, Director, Planning and Zoning Ms. Mariana Gracia, Recording Secretary III. Minutes —June 2, 2021 Motion to approve the minutes by Mr. Suman, seconded by Mr. Brown and the Motion was approved 6-0. IV. DISCUSSION BY THE BOARD AND STAFF Public Comment 1 Ms. Catherine Garcia and Mike Canola were present. Ms. Garcia introduced herself and her husband, she spoke about the Fertilizer ban and her involvement in other projects related to sustainability. She informed the Board about moneys available for the different project related to sustainability. She spoke at length about issues with recreation and artificial turf and the ordinance about leaf blowers and artificial turf. Public Comment Closed Mr. Kendall spoke about the ordinance. Mr. Ockert invited Ms. Garcia to present on another occasion. Meeting Minutes Approval for June 2, 2021 Motion to approve made by Mr. Suman, seconded by Mr. Brown and the Motion was approved 6-0. Mr. Ockert informed the Board of the meeting he had with Staff and the issues they spoke about. Recycling being the main subject of the meeting. Miami Shores has a high rate (90%) recycling. He said that Target sells biodegradable bags. Public education about this issue is needed. About two stroke motors and Council meeting last night. He recommends not presenting in front of Council until the Committee first discusses the issue. Mr. Kendall spoke about hearing the presentation about two stroke motors at Council meeting. Ask the members of the Committee not to be discouraged about bad feedback. Staff took the comments as more positive than negative. Utilities/Sewer generally they don't run on the same route. There was extensive discussion amongst the members regarding the challenge of septic to sewer. Discussion in pursuit of Sustainability and Resiliency and the different numbers comparing local cities in the vicinity. The members discussed the Action Plan and related sub topics. Sewall — Mr. Johnson gave a brief presentation about the Sewall and the different ways that landscape can be done in the bay area. Mr. Ockert suggested having a landscape design competition. Members of the Committee like this idea. Mr. Johnson would present in front of Council in September. W The members like the idea of a welcome package to new residents. Staff spoke about the Park Master Plan by the Recreation Director. End of Discussion. Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 6:30 PM at Village Hall, Council Chambers.
