EAB Minutes 2019-10-17EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2019
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE HALL
6:00 PM
The meeting was called to order at 6:25 pm by Mr. Netto with the following members present:
Dana Vignale
Patricia Walker
Leslie Fraser
Douglas Garber
Antonio Netto
Absent: Tiffany Anderson
Daniel Jimenez
Sylvie Duerkopf
Also present: Ysabely Rodriguez, Village Clerk
1. Mr. Garber moved to approve the Sept. 19, 2019 minutes. Ms. Fraser seconded, and the motion
was approved unanimously.
2. Public Comments: No public comments were offered.
3. Ms. Rodriguez shared that a meeting is scheduled for October 18 with the parties involved in the
PASS Grant, including Mayor Wagar, Bob Bourne, Elaine Liftin and possibly others. The purpose
of the meeting is to provide an overview of the status and identify the next steps in the grant
process. The understanding is that there is at least $75,000 available to be matched since the
match only applies to increments of $25,000. Bob Bourne had previously offered to add the
additional $3,000 necessary to create a $100,000 fund for matching. Ms. Vignale explained that
normally the money flows through the Council for Educational Change.
4. We are waiting for a definite date for the celebratory breakfast for the faculty and staff at MSES.
Since several Miami Shores Council members wish to attend, adequate notice will need to be
provided. Ms. Walker added that Ms. Cigno has offered to contribute towards the breakfast.
5. Additional comments: Mr. Netto suggested that we reach out to the PTSA Board at MSE to create
better communications so that we may provide support. The advantage of an electronic marquee
for the school was discussed, but pricing is prohibitive at this point. Ms. Walker agreed to suggest
to Bob Bourne that perhaps MSE could have a booth or some kind of presence at Green Day
advertising the Cambridge Program. Mr. Netto will discuss with Ms. Swain the idea of conducting
an Open House for prospective students within the next few months.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
Next meeting: Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in the Village Hall Conference Room.
