The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Ms. Borja made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 6, 2020. Motion
seconded by Ms. Henry and unanimously approved.
Ms. Dorney discussed the status of the new water park, named Wild Waters. Wild Waters is
currently in the permitting process. Permission has been given to begin the plumbing process.
The delivery of the new structure is scheduled for April.
Ms. Dorney related that the competition pool was remarcited and did not pass inspection. The
pool is being emptied for permitting/inspection. Ms. Dorney is working daily to have the pool
opened as soon as possible.
Ms. Dorney noted that the capital process has begun. Previous suggested projects from the
Commission include new window treatments, light fixtures, new insulation in the Auditorium,
renovation of entire Areca Palm room, replacing carpeting with linoleum. All four Community
Center bathrooms, lobby and patio, will also go into capital.
It was noted that the initial quote for the field house bathrooms, including a changing area, was
$200,000. The architect will need to submit a new quote for what can be done with $40,000 to
the bathrooms. A suggestion was made for portable facilities that could be used for changing.
Ms. Dorney said these structures are against Village code. Mr. O’Hara suggested asking for
an exception to the code and said these portable facilities could be rented for the summer.
Upcoming events include the Father Daughter Dance, Plaza 98, Egg Dive and Marshmallow
Drop. Ms. Dorney said the pool’s concession will be renamed The Watering Hole. Ms. Dorney
said that Unity Day sold more food this year and wristband sales were similar to those at
Winterfest. Ms. Dorney noted that single use water bottles are not permitted on Village
property per the new ordinance.
Ms. Henry asked about the terms of the travel soccer contract since she has heard from
different groups that parents are not satisfied with the present group. Mr. O’Hara asked for a
list of the terms of all the travel teams contracts. Mr. O’Hara would like new contracts to
include a clause that allows Miami Shores residents to receive a discount for the program.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
